New 636 owner

Quick backstory: I've been riding for 13-ish years. First bike was an 84 GPZ900, second one was a mess of a BMW K100 cafe racer, which was then replaced by a ZRX1200 which was sold about a year and a half ago because I needed to buy a house and I hated cleaning carbs.

So the motorcycle bug starts to eat at me again. I want to buy something nice (ahem, those red bikes...), but I can't (money). I get a small bonus at work and decide to keep my eyes peeled on CL. Saw a 2003 with 30+k miles listed for $2k. I shoot an email and they instantly go down to 1400. And that includes a front and rear stand.

It's a bike that has definitely been used, not terribly abused, but definitely lacking in maintenance. It was dropped at least once, but not very hard. The second owner I bought it from put nearly all of the mileage on it from 2007, and I don't think the guy did anything other than change the oil. I rode it about 50 miles to get it home, but the rear sprocket is just about gone. So I've got a chain and sprockets, air filter, oil filter, valve cover gasket, etc. all on order. I'll tear it down and bring it up to spec and enjoy. I'm still well under 2K invested so far, which was my budget, so I'm happy. Looking forward to learning more here.

I feel bad nobody has responded so Welcome to the forum.

Apparently you have to mention your a female in your Subject line to ensure your introduction post gets welcomed and potentially reaches 3 pages.

Yeah, with huge... eyes.

Welcome aboard, show us more pictures as your adventure ensues. There are normally no dumb questions, so ask away. (Well yes, there are enormously stupid questions, but since you ride a Ninja, we'll start with the notion that you already are not Darwin Awards fodder.)
Darwin Awards. Chlorinating The Gene Pool.

Again, welcome.

OP, welcome....

I wandered in here looking for a shop manual, 5 years ago. I've stuck around because it has proven to be a good resource for anything related to motorcycles in general, and the zx6 in particular.

Try not to get too excited about some of the hyperbole...
Un3dukatd likes this.

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

What, there is a female? Pics? Jk. You have to post something interesting like pics of your sister, as long as she is at least 18. Jk. Welcome.

Haha! Well, I do have huge... hands.

Thanks all. I also started a thread in the build section. I had quite a night last night with it. Took of the front fairing, gauge and air intake, only to realize I REALLY needed to take off the top triple to get that damned ignition switch out. Good times, though. I get in a grove and just go at it until my wife tells me I'm crazy and it's 1:30 and I need to go to bed.

I kept waiting with baited breath...

Well, maybe that was with hangover breath, NinjaTemp...

I thought you'd surely surface by New Year's Day after you're wife ordered you to bed that you were gonna rock out the end of 2016 and rock in 2017 with a wind your sail and a strong head wind. Damn boy, you didn't start snoring before the race even saw the green flag again? How you think you're gonna keep a trophy girl if you cannot even make the checked flag?

Cheers mate,
Wishing you & all the ZX family a blessed & health 2017.
