I Ride: '05 Aprilia SL1000R (Falco) in Hot Red / Diablo Black 2 owner, 14K miles
Thumbs up New Member...from the dark side

Hi All,

Just wanted to say hi as I'm coming over from another forum Aprilia SL1000R (Falco) owners group (the dark side).!

I will be selling the Falco this year (sadly) as I need something a little smaller from the aftermath of surviving cancer of the Tonsil & throat. The Falco is just a little too full of character these days I'm afraid even though being a very rewarding ride.

My project and search for a replacement finally led me to two models being the J or the A1P. The journey was a strange one as I originally thought of a ZZR600 for a more touring riding position. After seeing some USA images of their later model (20007-2008) I fell in love with the updated shape and knew that this was 'the bike'.

My heart sank when I initially found that they weren't available in the UK market but after some searching on a ZX6R forum from some knowledgeable folk found out that the USA ZZR version was in fact the UK ZX6R A1P.

So now I'm on a massive learning curve on what modifications are deemed the best for the A1P and I will welcome all who can help on that front. So far it seems the front calipers could do with an upgrade, especially as my Falco has Brembos fitted as standard and are brilliant.! Seems the rear shock could use a better unit too. This is not dissimilar from the Falco as that one is rubbish and I upgraded the swingarm to an RSVR unit along with a Sachs fully adjustable unit (also from a RSVR) which improved handling no end.

My search for a ZX6R will be around one which is mechanically sound but has poor bodywork as I intend to repaint it in Bordeaux Red and make it look like a late model USA ZZR (as in the pic below)

Sorry if this post is somewhat lengthy but hopefully it will demonstrate my keenness to learn all I can about this model and hopefully pass on some help in return through my future ZX6R ownership.

Hello from the darker side. LOL..

Glad you found us. Look forward to what you come up with.
Never thought of this bike as a touring bike.
I use my Tiger 1050 for that.

Welcome, and congratulations on still being with us.

Always nice to have another member with a variety of experience join in.

Lots of folk in the UK working on the bike you want, so there's really good knowledge on the board about the tweaking necessary to make it a really good ride....

They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

Welcome, and I would definitely not say that Aprilia is the dark side, just a different shade than what we ride =) RSV4 is my next track bike for when I get lazy.

Anyway, you picked an awesome bike to ride and I love the color on that ZZR. Be sure to post up build pics when you start to tear into your bike.
