Wink Greetings from México

Hi everyone!

Well my name is Francisco from México..

Ok, this is my 3rd bike, my first large one though. Previous bikes were smaller (CBR 250 for example).
I just bought it yesterday, haven't tested or raced properly but I like it. I always wanted a Kawasaki because Honda left me a bad taste of their crappy gearbox and stock tires. Anyway, I am not an experienced driver but I love bikes and I will try to take my baby to the roads every weekend so that I get used and enjoy it.

My bike is an old one, it's model 2000, but still gives it at the tracks, more than enough power for me. First, I plan to do some maintenance and then change the front windshield, which currently is nasty with the green color, and then paint it.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

PD: Sorry for my english, but ain't my native language.

Welcome. There's a lot of members riding that model over in the UK.

I would expect you will be able to get any help you may need.

Where in Mexico are you?

"Basic stuff fellas. Use your head for something other than to break your next fall."

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

Thanks for the welcome!

Today I took it for service (oil change, sparks, carb clean), let's see tomorrow how things will be, hope no major issues will be found.

Hello Francisco, welcome to the forum.

You have a great looking bike.
Take it easy, it's a lot more engine that what you had. The brakes are better but until you can control it could also get you into trouble.

Your English is way better than my Spanish. So I will be glad to put up with your accent if you will mine. Also keep in mind, some times translations suck and when humor is thrown in the laugh can be lost in translation.

Don't know if or how they do track days in Mexico. If not, get a visa and come on up.
I'll find a place for you to flop for a month. Should be able to get in a dozen or so.
You will have a blast.

There are a couple of tracks that I know of in Mx. When I'm at Laguna Seca for track days there's a team from Mexico there practicing sometimes and I've also seen them in Motoamerica. There's also Richie Escalante.

Here's a vid of Benny Solis at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

Indy likes this.

I'm not sure one way or the other, but I believe the Forum has shop manuals for most if not all generations of zx6r. Download one of these, it will become one of your best friends.

With the age of the bike you'll want to replace 'consumables' like brake pads, brake lines, chains & sprockets, maybe even water hoses. I know this sounds like a sizable investment. It's really preventative medicine. It's vastly cheaper than hospital/urgent care visits, too.

It's much more enjoyable doing these chores at the comfort of your own home rather than in the gravel along some rural road.

Thanks man, for sure.. I like to do my own repairs at home, at least for the cars I have had, but I will learn about mechanic for bikes starting by the basic stuff. In the service told me that I need to replace the steering bearing, but they still cannot find it
