Me.....

Hello all,
So about me. I have owned my 06 Zx-6R 636 since my friend drove it home from the dealer (minus a brief period). I love this bike unfortunately my wife doesn't share the feeling. But its mine and she has no issue with me having it. My bike has been through hell and back. Summer of 2007 my bike was wrecked when a young girl with 3 months entered my lane of traffic. Bike was upside down in the road and broke my collar bone. I was really lucky to survive with such minimal injury. At this point the bike was not road worthy lots of broken pieces. After a year of sitting and me not having the time or money to fix I sold it to my friend who is a mechanic. He fixed it wanted to track it but then he tore ligaments in his knee allowing me to buy it back for the same price plus parts....Hooray free labor. Now I get to ride in the summers and some fall and spring riding. And now here I am.

Welcome -- glad your spouse let you buy it back, and that you can enjoy the experience.

Always a good idea to get some refresher training..... especially if you have been off of two wheels for some period of time. Between skills getting rusty and physical changes that are an ongoing fact of life, it's a really good idea to have an outside party assess where you are at and what you may be able to improve on. That's one of the cardinal rules for maintaining spousal approval.

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

So the bike has been rubber-down for the near-decade since that first crash? That's pretty good.

I also crashed my ZX6R when it was new (to me). 8 days after I got it.

I don't really understand the deal with letting wives or girlfriends make the ruling over whether you own and ride a motorcycle. Love me as I am, or don't love me at all. I think early on in a relationship a guy makes a choice to let his girl start making life decisions for him. Don't let it start and you never have to deal with the consequences. Be a MAN.

It's about who and what you value. If you value your relationship with that person and the time you spend with them MORE than you value your time spent riding the motorcycle, and one compromises the other, then some people choose the person.

If you don't value that person more than your own time on the bike, you choose the bike.

And yes, there's balance to be had, and you might find that some girls will attempt to put more 'ultimatum' demands in a relationship, but if that comes up, it seems to point to deeper issues than just 'the thing we disagree over'.

Well, I don't know anything I value more than my wife and kids. I have been married to the same girl for 29 yrs this June. I just think that someone that is supposed to love you for who you are, should not place demands like choosing one thing over another. I am happily married, would not trade my relationship for the World. My relationship was done right, if nothing else was. That's all I am saying.

Agreed. Yeah I think there's a deeper problem if you get to the point where your SO is laying down 'You or It' ultimatums.
