For breaking in the motor just go easy for the first 3-5 minutes until it is at optimal temp than just vary the RPM, I wouldn't necessary redline it until you hit about 50-100 miles. Just don't hold it there or really at any RPM. You should be going up and down gears, engine breaking, etc.

Also remember after about 30 miles you want to let teh engine cool (take yourself a nice 20-30 minutes break) Then do it all over again.

I had the chance to visit a friend of mine back in late '80s/early 90s who worked for American Honda down in So-Cal; we were talking about reliability issues 'cuz Honda had some issues with their early V-4s, but then they changed the valve actuation and became renowned for their bullet proof motors. I asked what did they do? He said they went with gear driven cams... and they always warm the motors up to to "operating temp" before the bike is ever snicked into gear.

So far, it's worked for me. BTW, lugging a motor around in a higher gear than normal is horrid on a combustion engine.
haha, funny you should say that because I was late for my doctors appointment today and rode the piss out of it to get there on time. The real funny part of this story is that is was about 45 degrees out and my doctors appointment just so happened to be my annual physical. and i didnt have cold gear on, if you catch my drift

I hope your doc isn't female.

I used to be young and 'cool'... a real bad ass. I thought heated jackets/gloves, etc were for candy-assed old guys. Then my wife got me a heated vest for Christmas (20- yrs ago). In my mind only grey-beard BMW & Gold Wing riders wore that shit. Then I wired the X-mas present into my VFR. Hell, I'd never be without heated gear. I wasn't bad, I was stupid.

damn, its only been a week and I think im having a mod-life crisis about which slip on to choose.. I know this discussion has been beat to death and frankly I dont have time to read through the 75+ pages on the topic... Im stuck between sc-project gp m2 and the competition werkes (and maybe racefit and austin racing). Im worried about loudness mainly because Im still haunted by the drone of the two brothers full system on my old 650. Competition werkes is probably too loud (but theres a baffle). WHO KNOWS. sorry for the rant. Ill reply to myself when I make a decision...

500 mile update. So Im over the slow break in process and finally out of power mode 2. This thing is great! I havent changed the oil ever so im wondering if I should switch to mineral oil until 1500 miles (per the engine break in guide) or is it too late for all that. Input appreciated.

Stop following the engine break-in guide. Its BS. Change the oil with a full synthetic and ride it normally.

I would listen to a few videos regarding the exhausts you want with and without baffles to really hear the loudness. If you thought your 650 was loud.....
