I have been riding for roughly 25-30 years all of which were touring bikes from Goldwings and Harleys..
I just picked up a 1990 Kaw 600.
My first C.R.
it has 16,770 miles runs strong
I have to replace the tail fairing which the tabs were broke when i bought the bike, but in looking for the parts i keep seeing zx6r zx6d etc.... I'm trying to figure out the differences and so forth but keep running into dead ends.
Anyways New from Jersey. keep the rubber side down.

Welcome to the forum Outlaw..

Check the sticky's. Look for the part compatibility page.
For OEM parts Partzilla: OEM Motorcycle Parts, ATV Parts, Marine Parts is the way to go. Pull up a part and down at the bottom shows were that part is used.

Sounds like your over 40, so am I by a couple of decades.
Once you get the bike running well, do yourself a favor and do some TRACK day's. You will learn what your bike can do and how to actually ride it.
I've got close to 40 years on motorcycles. After doing my first track day found out I actually had one year experience 35 times.
Still working on bad habits but having a blast doing it..

OH,, NO pictures.. It didn't happen.

I'm hoping to do that school one day.
Want to get the basic bad habits I have first. Why spend big bucks for them to tell me what I already know.

For this old man, repetition is what I need.
Looking at my last pic's from Barber keeping body position even on a new track is something I can't do yet.
I was so worried about learning the new track and not crashing I forgot body the basic's.

Start simple, twist of the wrist II on youtube.
Total control riding course, Novice track days. Then visit Keith.

Welcome NJ. No worries about age. I am older than you and racing =) Track days are a walk in the park. I teach at the Penguin school (which does days at NJMP) and my last class the average age was 51 so you have nothing to worry about.

Anyway, welcome to the best place on the net!
