I have a the canon version of the sigma 10-20 but I know they sell a nikon version of it as well. I love it. If you're interested I can link some pictures. They also have a 8-16mm as well.

Call or go online to KEH.com
.
My wife uses D2X's. We have several really Nikkor AFS zooms (28-70, and a 35-105), a 28 WAL, standard 35mm, and a really good 2.4 50mm. They can get expensive, so make sure you go into detail with a rep.
.
You can also set the D5000 to "fine", and use a 35mm and then crop the image. Same thing with a 50,or even a zoomer. It's the image pixel count that presents any problems.
.
The best bargain is usually a 28-70 zoomer.
.
PS... The Keh staff are very well qualified.

I have the same camera. The wide angle lens is the only one I don't have, so I will be following this thread. Shame I can't use my old lenses from my cannon ae-1.

I have been using my Rokinon 8mm f3.5 Fisheye, for wide angle, but as you understand I have to crop the shit out of the photos and the cropped results are not great. But it's an awesome fisheye lens!!!

I might get a fisheye just for stylistic purposes. I really need to go out more and take some shots =P

good recommendations don't forget since you aren't on full frame it won't be true... get the wider of the 2 lenses.

That DX sensor isn't doing you any favors (not that I'm judging, since I use DX and am about to order a second DX camera...). I've heard good things about the DX Nikkor 12-24 f4. It's not ridiculously expensive but not cheap either.
Nikon 12-24mm

Here's the big question,
What are you trying to shoot?

I LOVE the nikkor 18-55 zoom for landscapes and other "wide angle" work, but it's only "wide angle" if you consider wide "wider than 35mm," because on a DX camera its effective focal length starts at 27mm. Your fisheye lens is taking a pretty effective wide-angle shot, but I understand your not wanting to crop and/or correct every shot.

One thing about sigma, tamron, etc... There are some lenses I want by these manufacturers, but remember than Nikon has been doing a more than great job of keeping lenses compatible with newer bodies. All bets are off with third-party stuff. That might be okay for a couple hundred bucks, but I'd be nervous about dropping over a grand on a lens that might lose functionality on new camera bodies.
