Hay Steve636 - does your 636 have motorcycle written on it, and your toilet, toilet written on it too. |

i am not allowed to post pics of my helmet, as it is top secret.
we were thinking about airbrushing a replica of my head all over the helmet... i think that would be fairly original

Rather than start my own thread I thought I'd dig up this old one to say I just got a Shoei XR1000 (RF1000 in US). It's nice, pic doesn't really do the design justice. Initially I was looking at an Arai Chaser as the fit was so good but I happened to try on the Shoei instore and found it fitted really nicely, but cost a lot more.. Then I found a place that sold it for about 40% off, I think that the 'Diabolic 1' design is last season's.
I was using an OGK aeroblade before, same as the one on the left.
The Shoei is a shitload lighter and fits my strange shaped bonce a lot better. I'd read reviews saying it was pretty quiet, but I found the OGK was quieter to use without plugs, though the Shoei is quieter below about 40 and at any speed with earplugs as the windnoise comes from beneath the helmet and is low frequency. It's also strange having a helmet with ventilation that actually works, you can feel the air from both the chin and forehead vents from about 35mph. It has Pinlock too, which will come in handy as it gets colder.
I was reading about how most helmet tests dont account for injuries caused by torsional force - where the helmet 'grips' whatever it hits and brain injury results from the sudden twisting of the head - apparently this sort of impact causes about 40% of all recorded injuries. C/F helmets are best for avoiding these injuries, followed by woven composites and injection moulded plastics are worst as they are great for gripping onto the road.
