Rattle Can Paint Jobs, Lets See em!

I have some track fairings on the way and I plan on painting them with rattle cans after some bodywork. Obviously they won't be show quality but again they are track fairings so I could care less. That being said, some have indeed achieved some great/decent results using rattle cans properly.

Either way if you have rattle canned your fairings post your bike and what you paint you used (krylon, duplicolor, rustoleum etc.).

Gonna be doing this in a few weeks ... Probably gonna buy whatever spray paint is cheapest that day. Lol. The inexpensive Valspar paint at Lowe's has been good but idk how it'll last on a bike. Might go with Krylon due to reputation.

Proper preparation is key to any paint job lasting. Put in the time to sand between coats, and it'll come out nice, whatever paint you use.

Some paints aren't as hard or durable though.

My whole bike is sprayed flat white with rustoleum. I just got a new nose cowl and Im debating if I should switch to satin white for the whole bike.

I've notice that and well too late now I bought what I had it's kinda thin but I love the way it came out.

Edit: I guess after really thinking about a can will always be thinner than a paint gun no matter what brand but at a cost of $55 dollars from Home Depot for 5 matte black can, two gray primer cans, and two different grits of sand papers them okay with it.

My friend has a sprayer at his business and a bunch of pre mixed ready to spray black gloss paint. Could I use that and then add in green and white accents with spray paint? Or will it not mix right?

If you are asking not me I wouldn't know haha I just went plain black and I might get ninja stickers in kawi green instead of painting that on.

Hopefully I can and somebody will chime in. Hah... I want to go ahead and buy all my supplies now. My friends high quality paint will be a great option and free to me... But I really wanted to go for a Kawasaki racing theme as well .. However I don't want to buy a full quart of pre mixed high quality paint just for small designs... Unless I can get a pint maybe? Rattle can would be cheaper I think.

There was a place in Phoenix, when I lived there, that could put any custom color into a rattle can. Something to look for, there probably an online vendor out there that can do it for you.

They do it online. Not cheap though.

You can buy urethane paint two parts in rattle cans. It has the activator in a cylinder inside the can. You push a button on the bottom of the can to puncture and release it. It works really well but it is kinda salty. I used it for a small panel repair on wife's Veracruz, I backed into it, now you cannot even tell. One site can match any factory color as long as you have the code.

I have limited experience with spray paint where I am looking for anything approaching a durable finish.

Did a motorcycle in metal flake rattle can green maybe 15 years ago. Looked good from 10 feet, so it did the trick as far as I was concerned.

It did not hold up well in the presence of spilled gasoline.

I understand that the paint stayed soft for a long time, due to the solvents that are used in the rattle cans.

Without lights or a heat source, how long does it take for typical home depot kinds of rattle can paints to cure?

My zx6r fairings were painted by my buddy that I bought them from. I wanted to paint my 250 race bike fairings to match. They came out pretty damn good. Sanded. Primed and then painted. I was more than pleased with the outcome.

The 250 was all white prior to the repaint.
