Pikes Peak

Took a vacation to colorado last week with the wife. Had a lot of fun doing all of the touristy things, but one of those things on top of my list was to drive up pikes peak. I have always loved seeing pictures and videos of the hill climb there and was dying to go there myself. Its also cool because the rocky mountains are completely different than the smokies, where i have done a lot of riding.

The day we drove up the Mountain was about 65 and sunny, which i believe is uncommon for this time of year, but was really windy and as such we were only allowed to climb to the 15th mile marker of the 18 or 19 mile long toll road.

Some really beautiful views from there, but was intense just driving up it. i couldnt imagine racing up it. some people are just Nuts!

I have made it to the top of Pikes Peak twice on motorbikes, once on an R1 & another on a CBR1000RR. Both rides were a fabulous rush.

Hell, Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 is over 11,000 ft in elevation - that's the interstate freeway; I think there are something like 53 peaks over 14,000 ft el. in CO. That is way different than what's back East.

The Sierra Nevada of CA, more similar to the Rockies in makeup, elevation & age. The Appalachians are much older geologically, speaking. Now you can understand why I make annual moto-journeys to the Rockies & the Sierras... No matter how often I make these rides, they are Always Mind Blowing stuff.

Really jealous. Renting a bike would have been too expensive, and gear would have been a pain to take with me.

Really beatutiful place

Very cool that your wife shares your enjoyment. That's a good sign for the long haul.

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

Well said, sir.

It's truly a challenge to be an avid rider if your spouse is opposed. I'm fortunate myself, my wife often will hand me my helmet & gloves & tell me to go for a ride (it's really an order). I come back a much 'kinder/gentler human being.'

As my wife of 30 years has come to realize, as well.
