Hey guys
I have a question about racing. Unlike car racing, during SB and GP races i have seen that on the straights the drivers are not going actually straight(shorter way), but make an arc through the whole straight(longer way)!
Whats the reason for doing that? To use she inner diameter of the tyre, thus the bike will rev easier?
Cheers

It's about entry and exit points to hit the apex, not always about the shortest distance |

Yes, i realise that on a short straight, but why this takes place on the really long straights.

It just depends on the track. There are plenty of times where I've seen the pro's slowly drift to the outside edge, run straight along the edge, and then sweep into the next corner. Like the other guys have said, it's all about maximizing your speed coming out of the corner, and then putting yourself in the correct place to maximize you speed through the next corner.

the more they turn the slower they go so they slowly move across the width of the track to minimize the slowing force of turing and keep the speed up as high as poss

OP, Its all about carrying the highest speed.
The shortest rout does not always = the fastest time.
& latter on in a race when the tires are going off, Yeah you will see riders
compensating by altering the line somewhat.

Cheers | I understand what you are saying about the revs as sometime it will bog the bike down if straightened to quickly, but i agree about not making abrupt changes...Its funny I ask the same thing and yet I have seen myself do it as well. Sometimes when the bike is already turning I think having a gradual straightening(letting the bike naturally correct) even if they have to over correct later in the straight is more negligible than trying to straighten it out and scrub off speed on the exit....its all about not losing drive. (just my opinion)

Thanks guys | Lol, it all makes a lot more sense when you're on the track and trying to figure out the lines. You can feel which line gives you the better drive, most times.
