lets go racing

had a really good mate pop over today and was having a chat over a pot of tea
now i know he is really interested in going racing ....not track days we have done alot of those
but give road racing a shot ....as we are big fans and thought its time in our life both the wrong side of 40
and we both like road for a bike
now we both have a race licence as we both race cars
so will have to find out about what we need to do for a bike licence ....have to check the rules and regs ......whether we need to go through all the red tape
we know of a race bike we can get with all spare wheels and a ton of spares
ok we are not going to be a John Mcguiness or a Keith Amor but feck it why not
so after 2 years of trying to pass it by his wife she has finally given in
mine says to me what ever makes you happy do it... as you dont want to live the 'what if ' life .......
so sod it watch this space
would like to start small like race at olivers mount

this is oilvers mount

Man that'd be a kick in the pants!

I've given a little thought about racing in some of the local club races. It's something I've seriously considered but would really have to put thought into the funds needed to take on such an endeavor.

That and even though I'm 36 years old.. I've told my pops I wouldn't race. Unfortunately, I think he knows I have a pretty competitive spirit and maybe he just said he didn't want me racing just for sake of saying it.

Best of luck man!

I'm starting racing this year so got my licence sorted last year.

Not much to it if you've already got a road licence. You will need to do an eyesight test, the competent to compete theory day (really easy) at ACU house in rugby and join an ACU recognised race club. The licence is 43 quid a year plus 50 quid I think it was for the theory day but you only have to do that for your first licence and then club membership and eyesight test cost on top. Most of the info is on how to do it is on the club sites anyway. Find a club you ant to race with and they will be more then happy to walk you through getting your licence.

Looks like a TON of fun, but I would never have the balls to do that. Best of luck, make sure you GoPro your races, would love to see them.

yep we are already in a club well we joined 2 about 5 years ago when we started to race our cars so we have kept up with the renewels for the clubs every year .....just need to find out whether i need a different acu race licence to race bike aswell as a car as ive got one for me to race my car.....but thats really about it
as my mate puts it .....roads racing is going to be fun as what we get up to on a sunday morning is more dangerous.....as in racing you havent got cars coming out at side turnings and everyone is going the same way and the best thing is you can use the whole of the road.....and i can see his point ......
and we are both going into it for the fun appeal....just a good jolly out and have a blast....we have a van so thats not an issue of getting to places
ive been waiting to do this for a while now and who knows might even give up car racing.....lol

Yeah I would guess you will need a seperate licence for bike racing as I would presume your race car licence is not issued by the ACU as they only deal with bikes and you will need it to race bikes. Also if the clubs you are with aren't affiliated with ACU, then they can't sign it for you. All clubs affliated with the ACU are in the handbook avaliable on there website here.
