05 ZX6R vs 09 GSXR600This is a discussion on 05 ZX6R vs 09 GSXR600 within the Racing forums, part of the ZX6R Forum category; I'm pretty sure these topics have been beaten to death, but I'm gonna ask anyways

I'm pretty sure these topics have been beaten to death, but I'm gonna ask anyways
Rider skill aside, as I know that make the most difference in the world, how would a 05 ZX6R compare to a 09 GSXR600? Which one would take the win? Does anyone have any numbers for these measurements?
HP/TQ
Top Speed
0-60
1/4 mile
If these 2 bikes were up against each other with riders of equal skill/talent/etc, which would you put your money on?
Reasoning behind is I have an 05 ZX6R and a coworker has a 09 GSXR600, and claims that the GSXR would spank the crap out of the ZX6R. Rider skill, I would totally lose on, so I was wondering how the machines stack up against each other...

straight line? you'll win (skills set aside; only stock motor vs. stock motor)
(mods factor in as well)
twisties? depends on your riding skill.

wow, I'd thought the gixxer would be faster than that 1/4 mile.

according to motorcycle-USA,com:
2009 GSXR600
hp: 105.15 @ 13K RPMs (not sure if bhp or rwhp)
weight: wet 421.2 lbs
power/weight ratio: ~.25 hp/lb
according to motorcycle-USA,com:
2005 ZX6R
hp: 124bhp @ 12.5K RPMs (~110 rwhp)
weight: dry 392 lbs (wet i'd assume ~435 lbs)
power/weight ratio: ~.253 (using 110 rwhp and 435 lbs)
strictly using only hp/lbs, the kwak comes out ahead slightly, but there are many many other variables to include.

But they beat the shit out of their test bikes & a crap load of runs to get the best #'s for advertisement purposes. I have to still be somewhat cautious of mine cuz I still have to ride it home.
I caught a perfect .000 launch and better 60' time later on that night, but missed a shift so ended up slower than the slip I posted. I was ssooooo F'ing pissed. |

twisties? depends on your riding skill. | I know for a fact that I would loose out HORRIBLY in the skills portion... I know that and so does my coworker... I was just wondering because I know that these 2 bikes would be super close in terms of the spec sheets...
As far as upgrades, only ones that would matter on both is the slip-on... Mine is the TBR, the gixxer has a Comp Werkz

im sure the kawi is quicker as most of the gsxr600's were the slowest of the bunch. if you look at the 05 zx6r (highlighted) on that chart, 2 bikes below it is the zx12r.. it's only slightly quicker than the 6, you would have thought it would have eaten it and shit it out. those figures can't be gospel.

You've got 36 extra cc, you win in a straight line.

Both the 05 636 and the 09 GSXR are great bikes. The 636 has a little more engine pep but the GSXR being an 09 is more refined, On a track I'd take the newer GSXR. On the street I'd take the 636. One thing for sure, if the riders are equal then just left to bike performance they would be very close to each other.

WTH? Did they de-tune the '06 ZZR600 or just had a crappy rider? 'Cuz I thought the now ZZR is the same as the '01 6R, yet the ZZR is listed as .5 sec slower?
