HI lads & ladies, First time posting here on these forums, been stalking for a long while now. been riding for near 2 years now and after highsiding my 636 on the streets back in december, after a fairly heavy, 100kph head vs guard rail blow. I've decided to leave the speeding to the track and pay more respects to the public roads.
My first plan was to rebuild the bike back to street standards which had been virtually completed. After a visit to the Kawasaki specialist they told me my frame was rooted. so after a long and hard cry outside the bike shop I had 3 options, a) buy a new frame and reframe the bike b) fill the frame in and sell it to some poor bloke or c) part the bike out. But after putting my heart and soul into this bike ( not to mention a few thousand $$ ) option a was a no brainer to me.
This was the bike as i bought it. 24,xxx KM on the clock in the plasma matte metallic blue ( which i thought looked pretty darn awesome )
After a very unusual crash that I am still unaware of how it actually happened. All I can really remember from the crash was coming out of a left hand corner, picking up the bike and preparing for the next right hander and after a very tiny amount of front brake applied all I remember is suddenly falling to the floor on the right side of the bike. no memory of the rear wheel kicking out or the handlebars jerking to one side.
RHS clip on bar snapped off
Fist sized dent on the left side of the gas tank
Right hand side upper cowling took some punishment along with the Clutch plate
Subframe got completely bent out of shape
So after many hours of shopping online I came up with these parts for the bike. Some of these parts weren't necessary in repairing from the crash but had been on my list for a while. I bought a set of aftermarket fairings ( that were pretty bloody good if you ask me ) for $650 and free shipping, half green half black.
First thing was first, removed all the fairings and installed the new air duct and windshield. ( corsa not double bubble ) Then removed the sub frame and gas tank and it was looking quite bare.
After waiting for a few things that got bent off the old subframe and needed replacing I was able to install it and hook up the harness and a few more pieces of the upper fairings. installed the yoshimura slip on and the fender eliminator. Also plonked the tail cowling ontop to give an idea of how the colors would look.
While waiting for my tank to get repaired and repainted to match the fairings I installed my new nissin calipers pulled off an 08 zx6r, put the new mirrors on that I bought off ebay for $35
, plastidipped the wheels a gloss black, installed the new candy red pazzo levers and attached the tail cowling to the subframe.
So after a lot of nights spent in my garage fixing bits and bobs, looking for bolts and tools
The bike was basically complete besides the frame.
Tank returned to me and looked brilliant, paid $450 for the repair and repaint. Had some red Spiegler SS braided brake lines ordered and put on the bike and the new tank protector that I won from ebay for $0.02
I'd make a list of parts that I used to restore the bike to it's current position but there were so many tiny things that needed replacing in order to continue repairs.
sorry if the story may seem a little jumpy, I was trying to string the story together based on the pictures I had taken a while back. The plan of attack now is reframing the bike with my old man and while I'm at it i'll be putting on all the mods I had listed out for track trim. Will update thread as the conversion progresses.
But until I sell my little ninja 300 and get some extra cash for the new frame i'll be watching repeats of the iomtt and the irish road races and honing my skills on the TT superbike ps2 game.
