SHOEI RF 1200 vs X 14 vs X12

Hi,

I am buying a new Helmet for racing / track days and trying to decide which one to get. I went to my local dealer and tried Shoei, HJC, Scorpion and Bell Star ( Current Helmet ), The Shoei seemed to fit the best out of all the ones I tried. The Bell star I have has gotten a bit loose in just about 2 race weekends and moves around when braking @ 150+ mph on my R6. I couldn't find any of the newer Bell stars to try out.

Is the X14 worth the extra bucks or a rf 1200/ X12 will be totally fine for racing/ track days. Looking for feedback from people who have used these helmets.

Can't weigh in with anything useful now, other than to say I just moved from an older RF-1000 to an X-12. Very similar overall fit and feel and noticeably lighter. I've got a track day coming up in a few weeks and if you're still looking at helmets at that time I'll be able to give you better feedback on the X-12 when used in anger.

Once upon a time, I reviewed differences between the snell 2015 (applicable to the X-14) and 2010 (applicable to X-12) standards, and didn't notice any major differences, so I would expect safety to be comparable between them. March of technology yada yada, newer is probably better, but my wallet prefers close-out prices on the older models. More money for track days that way...

I'm sure others can provide good feedback

About all that I can add to this discussion is that the new Bell Star fits more snugly than the older generation although the shell shape is very close (the interior is completely different) so if the older Star fit you, the new one will as well.

If you decide that you want to take a look at one, let me know and I will see what I can find.

bump. I'm curious about X-14 vs RF-1200.

I tried on the RF-1200 and it fits me well. I couldn't try on the X14 b/c none of the locals carried a size small.

Go to a store and try both on is all I can say. The RF-1200 fits me better and weighs a few ounces lighter so that is what I wear. Weight is a big issue for me (don't like heavy lids) so the 1200 is a nice option.

I've had my rf1200 for a couple of years now and its just now starting to get not as snug. I'm thinking of changing out the internals and that should do me nicely for another couple of years.

I am curious as to what people are saying about the x14.

Lefu - I've found the fit on shoei to be very consistent across product lines. Personally, I would feel very confident ordering something based on the fit of the rf-1200.

The X series helmets are designed for racing and more agressive riding where the rf1200 is more of a street/casual riding helmet.

Wait, the RF-1200 is lighter than the X-14? This seems to be backwards from what I expect, if the post above me is correct...

I got the X-14 and I love it. I don't feel any wind and its very snug. Keep it mind that x14 is a race oriented helmet and its VERY snug on my head. I had to get a size up cheek pad because I was biting into my cheeks when I talk through the Sena.

Keep in mind that if you plan to run Sena 20S, the headphone cutouts take some modding to get it to fit. There is a notch on the speakers therefore its not flush. Quiet helmet at highway speeds.

Like someone said, RF-1200 is mostly street with some track. X14 is mainly for the track.

I got the plain white and I actually like how clean it looks.

Personally I hate the way the 1200 feels, I LOVED my rf1100 but they changed the shell design. I opted into getting a shoei qwest because it retains the same shell from the 1100. That being said, Id go with the x14

People, keep saying 'X14 for track, RF1200 for street', but what are the actual differences? Shell shape? Aero more designed for full tuck? Ventilation? Weight?

You can't just say 'this is for track, it costs more'.

You hit it right on the head, its exactly that, Aero is aggressive, weight is lighter its got carbon fiber pieces, its a bad ass helmet

GT Air a possibility?

If it's any consolation i was choosing between the RF 1200 and my GT Air. I went with the GT Air because i liked the styling a bit better. I don't race though so idk how it would compare to the RF. I do like it though. It's my moto vlogging helmet. I also like my drop down visor. But i do know the RF is snell certified so i guess that would be your reasoning behind getting it for track. I love my Shoei. Great helmet and easily one of the best purchases i made on my gear this season. Very satisfied with it. HUGE upgrade from my HJC CS-R3.

I have the X-14 and use it for track days and longer trips (not using it for shorter trips as it fits me really snug and takes some time to put on properly, i also dont want to drop/scratch it..). Ventilation, visibility and stability at high speed is REALLY good. Great helmet. As with every helmet, noise level depends on a lot of things (windscreen height, head angle, seal around the neck, distance from helmet to shoulders etc.). When properly fitted, noise level is ok but i still use earplugs.
