New Pirelli compound (SC3), anyone try it yet?

Anyone try the new SC3 compound from Pirelli for either the Superbike slicks or the Supercorsa SC's? If so, what do you think? How's the grip and longevity compared to the SC1 and SC2?

Personally, I'd focus on the fundamentals before you concern yourself with tire compounds.

Based on the info from Pirelli, it sounds like it's more similar to the Superbike Pro slicks. Longer life at the cost of grip. I think I'll probably stick with the SC2 for now.

Interesting. I was looking to purchase a set of the superbike pro's here pretty soon. I'll have to check the SC3 out.

I run the SC2 and am considering going down to the SC1. From what I hear they are harder compound than the SC2 so I think I will be giving that a pass for now.

I have the SC2 on mine now, whats your intent with going to the softer SC1 (more grip)? I was staying away from the SC0 and SC1 on purpose out of fear of on the gas squirming out the corners.

More grip, less durability. However, track temp plays a big part in it. As I found out recently the SC2's are not good in very hot temps. They get all greasy and slide around too much, giving you a false impression that you're pretty much out of rubber.

Wow, so you in agreement that going to SC1 is the way to go?
This is news to me, cuz I was thinking the exact opposite!

No, I'm just saying it's different. It depends on what you want. So far I've been on the SC2, although I do have a new SC1 ready to go for the next race event I'm doing. The SC2 will last longer so far it showed to have plenty of grip for me (aside from the time when it was really hot out...they measured the track temp at about 135-140 F). Now for someone that's faster than me, the SC2 might not have enough grip, and the SC1 might be a better option.

There is no right and wrong, there's just getting the right tire for the right application and needs.

Also, I should say that the Pirelli vendor I talked to actually recommended the SC0 for such hot weather conditions (like where I was at) as being the best option, but he said the SC1 would be a bit better than the SC2.

It all depends on what you want from your tire....

Do you want longevity or do you want to be on the podium. ?

Are you going to run flat out as hard as you can or are you out for a cruise. ?

SC3 = endurance tire...

SC2= trackday tire...

SC1= Lets race...

SC0= I'm going for the win...

For the record, I use a SC2 front. I prefer the firmer feel and more precise turn-in than I get on the SC1.

These days I am running SC2 front, SC1 rear.

And that is the combo most recommended on the Pirelli web site....

My scenario should have stated "rear" tire ...

And for the record...lol... I'm riding Dunlops....'cause I have to... but when that sh!ts over... I'm going to try those "Fast Tires" everybody talks about....
