So why was herrin in intermediate? Even if that's the first time on that track, a guy like him would have no problems learning the track in advanced. When Jake Holden came to my local track he went out in A group on someone else's bike that he hadn't ridden before and within 3-4 laps he was lapping within a couple of seconds of the fastest guys, and by the end of his first session he was lapping faster than everyone. By the end of the first day he ran within 1 second of the lap record which was a good 7 seconds faster than the fast track day guys lol

He hasn't been on that track before. I spoke with him a few times throughout the day and he was pretty much out there just to hang out and have a little fun like the rest of us. The Coach he was pacing with is my buddy Nathan. I'm actually at his house doing his tile lol. This was one of the only sessions he ran in B group.

In the 3pm A group session I happened to miss a downshift coming into a turn and "Marquez'd" a save when I slid both wheels and felt the front start to wash out. Looked up and they were throwing the checkers. Coming in exiting the track Herrin pulls up along side me, flips up his visor and was wide-eyed holding up his fingers giving me the "this close!" sign lol. Asked him later how long he had been behind me and his words "you were hauling as man. I was having fun chasing you for almost 3 laps."

Just knowing he chased with me for that long and saying I was fast was one of the biggest compliments I've ever gotten.

Here is that video I said I was making please watch it and let me know what you think lol
Looks like a VERY flat circuit !

I don't think the camera behind the rider really gives anything at all to the video... it just means you can't see 90% of what's happening.

Nah, quite the opposite from what I've heard and seen. Keep in mind, most were in our shoes early on....they just progressed a lot quicker. Most of the MotoAmerica racers are really cool and down to earth, from what I've heard. And keep in mind that famous is relative. Nobody outside the US knew who Herrin was until he went to Moto 2 for half a season, and even here in the US it's only racers and people who watch MotoAmerica who know the name. Now when you get into the really high levels....yeah you get some cocky pricks like Jorge Lorenzo

My friends want to take a week off next spring and make this an once in a lifetime event.
There are actually quite a few weekday opportunities in the Northern California area, especially on Mondays and those are generally on the three day weekends. At the beginning of this year I went to all the local organizers I know of that schedule around here and put down everything i could find into a spreadsheet. I think you're gonna have a hard time finding 4 in one week and if you do the logistics would be tough.

Hypothetically if you just want to try and hit 4 tracks in California:
Friday at Chuckwalla - drive to Willow Springs on Friday night - 3.5 hour drive approx.
Saturday/Sunday in Rosamond - catch Big Willow and Streets of Willow on the same weekend (can happen)
Monday at Buttonwillow - 2 hour drive

If you want to actually get to Laguna and Thunderhill then you'd be looking at the following travel (best case if all the track days would line up) - I think your buddy would be exhausted..... I know if I did a full track day, then had to load up and drive 4 hours to the next stop I'd be beat after day 2.
Chuckwalla Friday
Chuckwalla to Willow Springs Saturday 3.5 hour drive
Willow Springs to Laguna Sunday 4.5 hours
Laguna to Thunderhill Monday 4 hours

I've ridden Buttonwillow about 5 times I think but never backwards - it was cool to see the layout from opposite of the normal direction.

Was it much different and if so, better or worse?

Sun angles this time of year can sure be brutal though.

I've only ran it CCW(normal is CW) so to me it is awesome. From what I hear it is more flowing going CCW than CW. Sun angles were only bad near Mazda turn and Phil hill AND only after 3 lol.

@Gawernator has done both so maybe he can say better than me.

Sun doesn't bother me I have a dark tint shield. CCW runs a little faster I think. I like CW #13 more
