Has there been any news on the bikes Ten Kate Honda will be riding? I'm interested to see if Hayden's bike will be the new 2017 CBR1000 we saw, and whether it will be a more competitive bike.

Yes they're using the 2017. Hayden already did some initial tests, although don't think it was the finalized bike.

Business as usual with Rea, Sykes and Davies at the top of the timesheets. Surprised to see Melandri right behind his teammate on the Ducati. It's as if he never took a break from racing!

Hayden only in 9th, a couple of seconds off the pace on the new Honda. I'm sure he'll improve some, but not looking great for Honda so far. Bradl not impressing either.

Was hoping to see Laverty higher up...but I still think he'll do well this year.

I feel bad for Hayden. Even the new CBR1000 is still so vastly underpowered compared to its competition.

I honestly do not understand fans of Honda sportbikes in general. Honda makes things that will last forever but as far as performance is concerned, Honda hasn't put out anything in two decades that was noteworthy.

Looks like Rea is still the man, and hasn't lost any of his competitive drive, despite winning two consecutive world championships.

Nice to see the ZX6R is still doing very well in WSS (1st, 3rd and 5th), and was 20th fastest overall. It's amazing what a set of Pirellis's can do for a ZX6R, and yet the R1's are still struggling in World Superbike despite dominating in MotoAmerica. Is it the tires?, the riders?, the money?

Well, other than their MotoGP Prototypes.

However, as a non-racing rider, I can see 'well balanced and lasts forever' as a bike that has a lot of value for a consumer. That said, 'Our bike is reliable' doesn't sell as well as 'our bike has the most HP/is the fastest'. And people don't want to brag to their buddies that their bike will last the longest.

In terms of production racing, yeah, I haven't seen them be competitive in that arena, ever. I was hoping the new bike would get Hayden closer to the front.

Yes, well MotoGP is purely a function of 'who can spend the most money' so it is not surprising that Honda is at the top.

The only figures that I can find are from back in 2009 where the factory Kawasaki team spent $46M for the year to support two riders while the Honda team was 'well over $100M' for their team of two riders.

It is well known that the Honda MotoGP budget dwarfs every other manufacturer out there which is a simple function of the fact that Honda has a lot more to spend.

By the end of 2016 Honda Motor Co had a net worth of 51.5 Billion dollars. The next closest contender in terms of size is Yamaha with a total net worth of 6.3 billion followed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries (the parent company of Kawasaki Motor Corp) at 5.1 billion.

You can't really count multi-million dollar prototypes as indicative of their standard product line :-p
