Track day camper

Hi fellow members

Looking for some experience users of a track day camper.
I recently acquired a Citroen relay from my
Company as they were going to scrap it and for £200 I couldn't not buy it from them considering it had a major suspension and engine overhaul not 3 months previous.
I have decided to turn this into a day camper for taking my bike to track days and hopefully once in there club racing.

I have already stripped the rear from what it was and have bought materials to insulate and ply then chequer plate the floor.
I then plan to run a double seat, kitchenette and gear storage unit down the right hand side looking from the back. Bike will be secured via a strapless locking in system from a company here in the uk. Will also run power via a split charge system and inverter.
Question I put to you guys is... from your experience if you run a day camper is what have you installed and found useful and is there anything big I will need. Any pictures would be brilliant too.

Things I need: small fridge, microwave, heater, storage. You are in the UK...put an awning on the outside over the side door...you will see a lot of rain.

I am going to have to measure up and make sure I got space for all this stuff. I will update this thread as I build so you can see the progress. I'm not rushing it as have all winter to get through but should get through a good section a week. Funds also going to be spread between this and the bike.

Not sure how much you'll really be able to fit into that, it's hard for me to tell how big it is. Can you post the actual year and model so I can google it and get a better idea? Or post exterior pics? The European idea of a camper/toy hauler is way different than the American idea of that it seems ...although if you got that for 200 pounds, that's a hell of a deal! Can't say no to that!

Looking forward to see what you end up with when it's all done. I've seen a few really cool ones made out of vans, but generally the ones I've seen were Mercedes Sprinters or Ford Transits.

I no what you mean about size, it isn't a long wheel base or high top it's a standard transit size. I have had 3 bikes in it before when we went to a track day at lydden hill few years back.
Once it's done it will
Only ever be carrying one bike down the left and the camper side of it down the right.
The main use of the camper will
Be for my girlfriend to sit and chill in while I'm tearing up the track. Gets kinda cold in England a lot of the time so she needs somewhere to stay dry and warm.
If I were to make an actual sleep in camper I would of choose a ups mercedes. Them things are like perfect...
I get started on the insulation on Friday so I'll post some pics

I used to utilise a 10ft X 10 ft awning out back so as to keep entrance/exit clean & dry &/or shaded. You will find yourself occasionally running tardy, it's no fun at all trying dead lift your bike on the ramp as King Gravity Is wanting to pull your bike to the ground on the port/starboard sides all because you were in a hurry and allowed your attention to stray.

Ditto what Slo said ^.

Not sure of actual I.D., but it's beneficial to devise a rack/drawers for your spares, even if it's another tool chest bolted to the floor. That way they stay (put) organized, clean, and organized, and don't walk off, categorized by what/where on bike... Saves valuable moments whilst making repairs in the pits.

Echoing what others have stated, I'd also add a generator for Sparky.

Consider having a cable with a lock for peace of mind while sleeping at night, that way you can attach the cable through the bike, generator, stands, etc. and secure it to the van.

Since you are limited on space is sleeping in a hammock an option? That way you dont have a bed taking up space all the time, or possibly loft the bed above the motorcycle cargo area? Kinda like this pic (instead of the storage have a twin bed above the motorcycle):

This is going to be a day camper only schooley so no sleeping arrangements at all. Just want useable equipment and no non essential stuff.

Luckily zed ex I have a 2.5 m 6mm alloy ramp which is 250 wide so the length allows the rise to be minimum. I easily ride it up and in with no issue.

Little update managed to get all the panelling and interior crap out of the van. Took me nearly 3 hours to scrape all the dryer cement and kem fix off the floor.

I used kurrust on all old drill and screw holes inside the rear and under the van to seal them and stop it progressing in anyway. I then tonight have spent half an hour with a can of rustoleum primer to spray over any repairs and any untidy bits and bobs. Didn't get a picture of that yet as was doing it with s lamp in the dark. Pain only getting half an hour of light when I get home from work. The temperatures get so low st night as well that the panels are too cold t work on.
Will get a picture tommorow.
Once all is dry I plan to fit this foil backed insulation layer all over the panelling and leave no gaps.

In between panels I will and gaps I will tape with Ali tape.

Haven't decided what insulation I am going to use yet for the next layer but probally kingspan 25mm sheets and fit them as necessary to all panels and floor. Stuff wool insulation down every crevice and hole and any I can't reach will get expanding foamed. Think once all is done will then wrap and vapour barrier over the lot.
