sbk1198's 2017 racing season

I know it's pretty early still in the year, but I figured now that I'm in the process of getting things ready on the bike and buying some parts in anticipation of this season, I might as well start a thread on here that I'll gradually update throughout the year with any racing shenanigans that I'll be doing. As you guys probably already know I'll be racing my '09 zx6r and my '13 cbr500r. I'm not really doing any upgrades at the moment, just getting some regular maintenance done, and prepping (such as safety wiring, replacing some worn out or rusty bolts here and there, and getting spare parts).

The plan for this year is to continue to do some local track days with Trackaddix, cuz it's an awesome time and for the sake of more practice, as well as do the races they have at the end of saturdays. However, i probably won't do as many of those as I did in the past because I want to focus more on racing so I'll be doing some races with CCS Midwest. I'll try to do as much as I can but my guess is I won't be able to afford a full season sadly ...but I'm hoping I'll race at Autobahn, which I've never been to, Road America again, at least one event at Blackhawk (they have 4 there), and maybe go up to BIR as well during the CRA/CCS event. As a bonus and if finances allow, I'll head down to Hallett to race with CMRA for the sake of trying out another organization, meeting more people, and mainly because I want to race at Hallett

To start out the year, I got some spare parts and race goodies from my very first sponsor, Vortex Racing! I hope to not have to use half of those items but always a good idea to have some spares on-hand when the inevitable happens!

Hmm...forum decided to rotate my picture :/

I PM'd him a couple of weeks ago actually about that topic (more or less) and we talked a bit. To be honest, I haven't tried that hard. I just followed PSlo's advice and sent it off to a few companies. Seems that I missed some deadlines though as some companies only accepted applications for 2017 through the end of November. There were about 3 that I would've liked but I missed their deadline. But that's OK...anything helps, and the great majority of costs associated with this consists of tires and the actual race fees, and nobody's going to sponsor me with that. Not at this level anyway.

Good luck dude, let me know what BIR round you are thinking of hitting up I may make the long trek up there and join ya! I was thinking maybe the September round after I get back from Europe because they have the 5 hour endurance on Sunday...

Cheers,

Adam

CCS only has one day there, in conjunction with CRA. I'd have to look at the schedule again but I think it's in June sometime. I'm not really a big fan of the short course, which is what they'll be running I'm sure, so I'd be ok with not going. It really all depends on how many events I can afford to go to and how well I do. If I end up doing ok after the first few, I'll do as much as I can to go for the points and hopefully advance to expert if I rack up enough points at the end.

However the Donnybrook Course at BIR is something that I think everyone in this sport should experience at least once in their lifetime, especially people that have at least a 600. It is crazy fast! One of the CRA guys just set a new official speed record this year there at 197 mph on an S1000RR! It also has the fastest turn on any track in the US (from what I've been told).

Right on, it is my home track that I started on and I have ridden everything from 125's to R1's there. 197? I saw 191 back in 99ish there and I had heard some of the Formula Extreme big boys broke 200 so that is interesting... Either way 6th gear flat out is a pretty awesome feeling there through turn one! Agreed everyone needs to give it a go!

Sorry, I guess I might've misinterpreted the article:

Kyle Ohnsorg Breaks Lap Record, Hits 197 mph And Wins CRA Races At Brainerd

He broke the lap record, while recording 197 on the straight, it doesn't say anything about that speed being a record speed. My bad. Although I don't see how it's possible to go that fast, back in the late 90s, unless it was on some WSBK-spec built machine at least. Was that on the GPS that you saw, or on the speedo? Since you brought it up earlier, I had to go watch some videos of both layouts (brings back memories from a few years ago), and the one I was watching was on a liter bike and had GPS data displayed on the video and he only made it to 172, and the guy was fast...like 4 seconds off the lap record fast. Not sure what bike he was on, but definitely a liter bike.

Hahaha, I was on a Formula Extreme R1, it's been a very long time ago don't remember everything anymore, at the time and the local police were out there testing radar guns. Speedos were the first things to go back then and I still tape over them on the bikes now as I don't want to know how fast I am going anymore.

We also ran without the chicane in turn 8 too so lap times were different back then... I have ran 1:43's on my Honda RS250 there, couldn't do that anymore with the chicane there. Rich Oliver had the track record there for a few years on his TZ250... Dang, good fun memories coming back!

I honestly didn't get the point of putting those cones there to make that little chicane I wish they'd just let people run straight through like it was intended.

I just looked up this track... I would be scared of the drag strip in the straight. Would it not be super slick in all but the best weather?
