Dunlop Introduces New Rear Slick Tire Size Designed For 600cc Motorcycles

Buffalo, NY: At the Utah Motorsports Campus round of the MotoAmerica series this weekend, Dunlop will introduce a new slick tire size for the Supersport class designed specifically for 600cc racing machines. Dunlop developed this new road-racing slick specifically for the 5.5-inch rim used on 600s, and it offers significantly elevated performance for the class. This 180/60R17 rear tire will be available in soft and medium compounds first in the MotoAmerica series, and will soon be available to club racers across the country.

Developed on tracks across the country with top 600-class riders including Garrett Gerloff, JD Beach, Benny Solis and others—and at Dunlop’s Proving Grounds in Huntsville, Alabama—this new tire provides greater feel at maximum lean, quicker cornering transitions, increased overall grip, and prolonged tire life—a big benefit to club racers. Lap time improvements during testing were at least a second a lap depending on the track.

“As the series tire supplier for MotoAmerica, it would be easy for Dunlop to not aggressively pursue new tire designs,” said Mike Buckley, Dunlop Motorcycle’s Vice President of sales and marketing. “But we have continually developed our racing products, and this new tire is a way to provide 600-class riders with tire technology designed specifically for that class, which we hope will provide these riders new opportunities to elevate their own performance and get even better at their craft.”

I would definitely be interested in using these if I was keeping my bike! The Dunlop D211 I'm using right now 120/70 and 190/60 have been the best tires ive used! Love the profile, easy transition, great feel, and great longevity if buying the Med+. So far have 5 days on the rear and can still get another day or two I believe front looks even better! But I get kinda biased for these kinda things lol.

the announcers during the last MA round alluded to these new tires so they may already be using these in the 600 grids. maybe our resident MA experts can chime in?

But nevertheless....Pirelli still #1! :D
Ever since I have heard the phrase DunRock I have tried to stay away from them haha. I just got done using up a set of Metz, supposedly they are made by the same manufacture as Pirelli. I didnt really have a choice as I was up at NJMP and needed a new set. They only had a set of Metzgers, soft compound. Just ordered my second set of SC2's.

its a well known fact that dunlop + kawasaki = front end chatter. imo this is the #1 reason why you see so few kawasaki bikes on the MA grids.

When our Dunlop guy can get these I will slap them on and take one for the team. :D

I'd LOVE to run a 180 slick! The 190 is good... the 200 is OK at lean angle but the mass being greater makes them spin up slower (for me) than a 180/55 street tire. I'm down....
