Epic Road Trip!

It's time to take one of those long road trips that constantly want to make you groan and feel like giving up on life, or the journey, for that matter. But I'm here, doing it again, and if I make it, it will be my longest on two wheels ever. The resounding success of my trips to Missouri and Atlanta in the past on the 6R have instilled in me enough confidence to take the baby Yamaha out on a 'spin' to visit the parental unit in New Jersey (yum, PA roads).

I will break the trip into two parts, and plan on camping along the way in a State/ National park. Even I'm not daft enough to do the entire thing in one go. Anyone have ideas on where to camp along the way that they recommend?

I'll change out the oil tonight for the 600-mi service, and head out early tomorrow morning. I'll keep y'all posted, and hopefully get some nice pictures and stories to share.

Yeah. I'm taking a camping pack with the tent, clothes, some food, etc. Hopefully I can bungee it to the passenger pegs and not have to wear it. The tent takes up the moat space right now.

She doesn't have one... yet. This is a solitary trip for me.

Not that I am trying to extend your riding time, but if you decided to dip down into West Virginia there is some spectacular roads and camping to be enjoyed.

Have a great ride.

Quick updates:

Chicago traffic sucked.
Camping sucked.
Indiana sucked.
Hotel stay sucked.

Thankfully, things seem to be going well today.

Only Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey to go!

Ride Safe, you're going through some heavily traveled highways, often with constuction, congestion, tolls and distracted drivers. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids at each stop.

Last spring I drove over a thousand miles in a day and a half. I was easier than I thought it would be, but it was cooler and on less traveled roads than what you are doing.

More updates;

Made it to NJ late in the evening yestersay. Sore and cooked buttocks.
Spent Wednesday night at weaponzero's place in Pittsburgh. Got rained on all along my ride east through Pennsylvania. Sucked for the most part, but the amazing roads through the Appalachians (kind of) made up for it.

Now, more rest.

Starting back to Wis tomorrow. Getting lost and changes in my route added about 300 extra miles to my journey going eastward. Maybe I can plan better on my way back...
