Even if you own a bike I don't feel youre qualified to ride MINE. And please dont even touch my bike. I hate it when people just walk up and start looking with their hands. I let someone sit on my Ninja 650 once and he foolishly stood it up off the kickstand and almost dropped it. I had to tell him "Yeah, they are heavier than they look huh, K, get off now."

those are the most common I've seen. | In the above vid, I think his upshift caused it by momentarily allowing the front tire to hop. That's happened to me before as well...you clutchless upshift and the next gear grabs with a slight jerk and unloads the front suspension as you go over a slight bump and voila! a tankslapper. This guy got really lucky as he was able to reign it in and get off the track to change his underwear.
Firming up the rear suspension can help sometimes too, but only if your suspension isn't set up properly to begin with...

I'll share a few thoughts on this thread.
1. It is truly great that you have started riding and that you have embraced wearing gear from the beginning. You will never regret the choice to wear proper gear.
2. Experience is usually acquired the hard way. Don't make it so hard that you can't learn from it. Your rides at this point should probably be short and to a parking lot to practice your MSF drills on your new bike. They will help you learn how to control "that" particular motorcycle better. They are not just to get you past your licensing exam and on the road.
3. Public roads are not designed to be safe at triple digit speeds on any vehicle. Most aren't designed to be safe on a motorcycle at even the posted speed limit. At 100mph your body will travel a very long way when you crash. Stop at any point on any road and look around. Would you really like to hit that curb, mailbox, tree, parked car, street sign, light post, telephone pole guide wire at even 30mph? At 100, the wire holding up the pole will amputate any limb that hits it, including your neck. And it doesn't need to be all that close to the road at those speeds. Even 50 feet off the road is plenty close at 100mph. This is just something to think about when you ride. Please (everyone) try and keep these kinds of speeds on the track. Tracks are designed in ways to make them much safer (never totally safe) than public roads.
Be careful out there and we can all laugh about this thread in 30 years when you have the experience to appreciate some of the reaction here.

That tank slapper video was awesome by the way. I have no idea how he managed to save that one. I see he didn't want to get back out on the track very quickly after that.

First I'd like to say that you seem like you'd be a pretty cool guy to ride with PowerGroove. Listen man, these guys are being harsh but their not just trying to be assholes. They've seen people crash and they've seen people get hurt. I've been riding three months, put about 6000 miles on my bike and I've had one lowside. I personally know 5 other people that have wrecked in that length of time. You don't know your limits yet, and I don't know mine at this point. I rode dirtbikes for a while and when I got my bike I got arrogant and I was screaming around everywhere I went and I ended up laying it down after riding a month, and about 1500 miles. Trust me man, poor choices will not only hurt you but they can kill you and just because you think you can handle it doesn't mean that you can. I'm already gonna be doing track days in November at Barber because I want to become a better rider, and I'd advise you too take it easy and get some experience. I never thought I was going to wreck, even when I wrecked I didn't know I was until I was sliding on my back haha. So just be saafe and always gear up man.

Nice ending there LOL. I'm surprised you didn't kill your brother lol. Quote:

When i saw this I was so FURIOUS(im so anal about my things sometimes). I went to him and asked why was my bike moved. he said, "i rode it" WTF? i didnt believe him and i thought he was playing with me. the next day he did the same thing and again i was FURIous. so the next day, he starts he grabs my helmet and gloves and takes my keys from my room as it were his. i was like O_O, "WTF is he actually gonna take my bike?" anyways, he was serious. I wanted to see if he can really ride it and him being 5'6 tippy toeing it. he turned it on and i told him if he dropppes it and breaks anything he would have to pay it beacause it would not pass inspection. so i convinced him to not to ride. I felt bad beacuse i saw his face down. i thought about for 15 mins and i told him we would go to a parking lot where it's safe. So we went. so he got my bike and he actually rode it. i gave him some pointers and he was doing fine until he was making a turn and had the throttle revved up and clutch in. I was like OMG...he's gonna wreck.. he ended up pulling the front breaks really hard and dropped my bike. the throtle spun the bike as he let go of clutch and ended up scratching the bottom fender. it was a small scratch but i was okay with it. he bought me Chipotle afterwards. this is my story bit boring. | |

I had one of my friends come over very excited to see the bike. The bike was in first gear and I had the clutch pulled in...I start talking to him and he reaches over for the throttle and gasses the bike!! I was thinking to myself WTF what if I let go of the clutch or something! I later told him he should have thought twice about doing that and he agreed.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. You guys are all right. Even my experienced rider friends tell me from time to time not to get over confident.

For all you guys saying "He's a good friend and would pay me back/give me his bike" in the event of a crash...
I've been $hit on before by a best friend over a decent bit of money the two DO NOT mix.
