No clunks for me. If I just take off hard from a stop light with tc off the by the time I hit 30mph front end will climb up rest of the way through first same thing at the dragstrip it will stand up on end in first gear.

2013 636 for me.

I can power wheelie all the way up (with TC off) on my '13 by rolling it on from a near stop-- no need to even bounce the throttle for me (the roll on, off, then back on maneuvre). What made all the difference for me was sitting all the way back in the seat. If it's a hot muggy day, the power difference is noticeable, maybe then, doing the shock bounce move will be needed to get it up.

FWIW I weigh 180lbs, my gear, another 10-12lbs.

If I power up I get it to 6-9k rpm. Chop the throttle and wide open. She will stand easily.

Otherwise I clutch it up

You say it feels like tc is on still. Do you hear it bog? Or do the rpms stay steady and climb. Maybe you're spinning your tire a little? Can weave your bike around to heat up your tire and see if that helps.

I clutch my bike up in 1st through 4th and have no issues at all. Obviously 4th takes a lot more throttle but it will come up without any issues.

Maybe your suspension in rear is too soft or chain is too loose. I know when I first got my bike my rear suspension was way too soft for my fatass.
