kleen air mod done but causing me to burn through oil

hey everyone i did the kleen air mod and i checked it over to make sure its done correctly but when im cruisin in the balance point i start burninng so much oil in the exhausst that it smokes out evveryone behind me. so much smoke they cant even see 5 feet in front of them. i saw people say that it will just do this till the oil gets down to the correct level but after a few hours of fucking around it took over 2 quarts to bring the oil level back to the full line (with bike leveled)
can anyone tell me what to do to fix this

People behind you? Like other drivers on the road? In that case my advise is simple and I'm sure you know what it is. Other than that, have you overfilled your oil?

If you are one of these fools who performed the "kleen air mod" by tying in the PCV hose to the SAI system, you are a clown, and that is why you are pulling oil into the exhaust and burning it.

The only "kleen air mod" that is correct is removing the SAI hardware from the top of the motor entirely, plugging the orifices with blockoff plates, and then plugging the nipple on the bottom of the airbox.

DO NOT mess with the PCV line that goes to the other nipple on the underside of the airbox. No idea who initially suggested this idiotic modification, but its pointless.

Yea, the way you did it is not correct and I will never understand why people think its a good idea to tie the PCV hose to the SAI equipment.

Here is a link to the proper install on an 07/08 model. I dont know what year you have, but if its 06 or lower you wont have a plug that needs to be jumped.

I'm actually a little annoyed with myself that I didn't make the link that ebster did. I remember when people used to do it the pcv - sai way but when I saw this thread a couple of days ago but couldn't see how blocking the sai would cause oil to burn so I kept my mouth shut... Also to help answer the question why people ever done it that way, I remember reading that some high performance cars have their crankcases under vacuum to remove air resistance on the pistons and I think that's the logic with joining the pcv and sai, but I think it was eviltwin who done before and after dyno runs and said it made no difference. Either way good work ebster

I had a motor hydrolock on me with the crankcase venting into the airbox. I'm no stunter but I held a wheelie far enough back for long enough that I built up enough oil in the airbox to foul all 4 spark plugs and then hydrolock the motor once I had pulled the clutch and oil pooled in the cylinders.

The wheelie was relatively short at only around 10 seconds before the front came smashing down. Oil was not overfilled. I had done several much longer wheelies that day already, no idea why that one in particular siphoned so much oil into the airbox.

While I agree that a "propper" clean air mod involves block off plates, there are a couple folks including myself who have personal experience motivating us to reroute the crank case breather.

I routed my crank fumes to my exhaust in order to avoid hydrolocking again. The alternative of pouring oil onto the road is a definite death wish and I have no idea what plugging the vent and building up pressure in the crank case would do.

Just my 2¢

EDIT:
OP, unfortunately I don't have a good fix for you other than tapping a new breather further forward on the crank case. Lot's of work involved with that one

I can send you a link for the proper kleen air mod for that year model. Did it on both 05's I've had. I've carried wheelies far enough that I set the front down just because I get bored and never burned oil.
The link is to another forum tho. I don't want anyone to get ass hurt by me posting it so I'll pm it to you if you want it.

If you have an 05 the job is essentially the same except you dont need to worry about jumping the plug on the harness as there is none. Also, you will need a little vaccum plug to cover up the nipple where the SAI system attaches.

As far as stunting/wheelies, I am also not a stunter so I cant speak much for having the front wheel elevated for extended periods of time. I still think the PCV system should remain intact. If anything, add a larger catch can to the airbox drain line and you should be just fine.

could have over filled it but best way is block off plates and running a hose with a filter off the back of the motor

do you have a write up for the 13+ kleen air mod? that is next on my list. as far as i know, from reading online. you t the 2 on top the valve cover, an the last nipple of the t goes to the case breather towards the back of the motor. an cap off nipples on the airbox that now have no hoses on them.

is your t facing toward the front? like going up towards the neck before it goes back to the rear crank case breather?

def dont wanna eliminate the pcv system or run with the kleen air hose. crankcase needs the normal vent system to function right. or at least a breather filter on it but not routed into the valve cover.

Check out some of my builds. http://www.zx-10r.net/forum/album.php?albumid=3114
