Find a large empty parking lot with plenty of space. Gear up. Watch/read some how to's, bring a video camera, and a friend to film who can also help you pick up the pieces or drive you to the hospital if need be.
Don't expect to be riding out big stand up wheelies in one afternoon, there's a learning curve. When you feel the front end get light, turn around, hit it again and hold it just a little longer. work your way up, don't just pin the throttle and dump the clutch. But if you decide to ignore the learning curve, I could always use a few spare parts |

I'll go with that Arron. I weigh 70kg with gear and the bike is nearly 200kg so if I lost it, ouch. I also think of the mechanical strain on the transmission.

Someone once posted up on this site that one of the best ways to start was to get the bike at 35 in 3rd, down shift to 2nd and give it lots of gas as you let off the clutch fairly quickly... I think I remembered that correctly...

There's a safe way to do it, lol? Just joking there
Seriously though, I let the her wheelie if she wants too but my motorcycle is way lighter than most 636's out there & has about ten more horses so simple, quick upshifting lifts the front tire a bit. At first, as long as I'm going strait, I didn't notice it until the front end sat down. I'm not a crazy wheelie freak though, I'm all about the corners!
Just my $.02

yeh would love to start wheeling but ive spent far too much on my baby to throw her down the road! but the tip of 'cover the rear brake' is must! if u poo urself cos its come up too far just use the rear brake (and shut the throttle obv haha)
i think the way im gunna go is spend £500 on an old trials bike and just mess about on that or an mx...if you fall off on grass it dont hurt as much and doesnt kill you cheap ass mx bike |

Those are great advises !!! all of them make sence, i guess it just comes down to what you feel is more comfortable for you.

Tried that on a dirt bike, didn't turn out pretty. Hahaha i'd suggest practicing on a dirt bike or something simlar. less money to pay for damages.

Yeah its good to learn the basics on the dirt. I'm no wheelie freak - but I love it when the front comes up.
I have been on my zx for 2 years, ride to work every week day - and generally ride like a girl (no offence MoM and Q you know what I mean) I found that just getting comfortable on the bike and riding it a bit harder from time to time I found I was catching a bit of air under the front and have managed a couple descent wheelies when I was in the mood.
I have resisted gearing up and going to practice wheelies cos I know 1 of 2 things will happen.
1. I'll get busted by the cops
2. I'll smash up the bike
Not keen for either.
It is a learning curve and the steeper you make the curve the more likely you'll stack it.

Ill do a power wheelie here and there but I refuse to learn how to clutch a wheelie cuz I can't afford to burn up my clutch. I just get the front tire about a foot or two off the ground and then let it back down. I have no intention of riding at 12 o' clock or anything like that. I had a close call once, had a nasty tank slapper on the landing. My friend next to me moved over to give me room to crash, and my brother behind me damn near stopped to do the same. I got luck that time and saved it. But if I do want to wheelie one up, I just go up to about 8,000 rpms in 1st, close the throttle and snap it back. Comes right up. My gearing is -1/+2, so if you're on stock gearing, the rpms might be a little higher, maybe around 10k. Just be careful.

Close the throttle meaning to let go of it and then snapping it back ? i just dont understand the gear ratio of -1/+2 . wish i would
