Hi,
Passed test in October, only managed to get out on bike half a dozen times but not sure if I have poor tyres, if I have not got enough temperature in the tyres or a problem with suspension
I have a ZX6R G2 with Bridgestone BT014's, when riding in the wet / damp it's like I'm on ice
Never had any probles like this on GS500 I trained on
Any advice appreciated and please be gentle with my ignorance / in experience

Welcome out.
If they are more then two years old, Id get new ones.
More then likely they are hard.
But for me, any time I got a bike, first thing is new rubber.
Post up a pic or two when ya can.
(we like pics)
Take a look in the "file vault" too.
You might find some good stuff. |

welcome to the zone mate, more tire temp is good but if its wet its wet and its going to be slipery.. How much tread is left on the tires, check the tread markers to see if there is much left..

I have a new set of BT014 on mine and they stick like s**t to a blanket!!!! Think yours are either worn out of as previous post said, they have hardened or are worn out.....
I got a front and rear including fitting for £180 from a local dealer.......
PS - unless you've got spiked tyres I'd leave it in the garage at the moment!!...

i have bt014's on my bike, never even squirmed on silverstone trackday and i use my bike all yr long and they have been fine even now on the roads. i wouldnt be surprised if you have partly just got to get used to a sportsbike. my first bike was a 600 bandit, when i then bought my first sports bike i found the difference between sitting 'in' the bike and 'on top' of a sportsbike made the feeling of tyres on wet roads a little unsettling at first. to overcome this i made myself brake harder and lean more. believe me the bike will grip and youll soon get used to it.

Welcome out my friend; i never liked the BT014's that came with my bike when i bought it brand new. When they're on dry asphalt they were never a problem but throw in some moisture and i started to get the ice skating effect. I have just put on a new pair of BT016's and i feel that they're 10 times better than the 14's. I would give the BT016's or the new Power Pure's a try, i've heard nothing but praise on those two tires.

Welcome mate! Can't speak on the Bridgestones, as I'm not big on them so I don't use them. I will say that pre '02 ninjas seem to LOVE Metzelers and Pirellis. I personally like the M3's. They give my J1 claws...dry or wet.
To me, it sounds like your rubber may be worn. Get a gauge to check your pressures, and if they fall within range, check the treadwear indicators. If that checks out too, then adjusting to the feel of a sportbike in the wet may be required. Then again, tires FEEL different to each individual.
Example: some guys on here love the Michellin Pilot Powers, I think that they lack feel. It's all subjective when you really look at it. What rubber was on your GS, and how didi it feel to you? You may want to try that brand in a sportbike tire. We could spend all day and night telling you what works for us, but ultimately, you have to find what feels right to you. Be safe mate.

I've been doing a bit of reading about tyres (just bought a set of Pures, and they're awesome) and I've heard that you can get Dunlop Sportsmarts in the UK. From what I've read, they sound like the perfect tyre. Super sticky, great grip and they won MCN Tyre of 2010. We can't get them here in NZ, but they'd be high on my list if I lived in the UK.
Has anyone tried them out? They sound a little too good to be true...
