Hi Guys,

I’m a new member looking for help.

I was out riding my ZX6R 2002 last weekend and when I got home I made a school boy error and stalled it on my drive way. I could of sworn it was in neutral!
Anyway when it stalled the red oil light came on and stayed on. Is this a coincidence or have I broken something? I’m still new to the bike it’s my 1st big bike since passing my test a few months back I’ve only done 120 miles on it so we are still getting to know each other. I haven’t ridden the bike since the light came on as I’m scared of damaging it. I did switch it on last night (I didn’t fire it up) and the light was still on. Please can you offer me some advice on what to check etc?

I have a 2001 ZX6R J2 and I'm in the same boat as you are. The oil light does come on when you stall it.... my car does exactly the same thing. I asume its to get you to check the oil incase thats part of the reason. Don't worry about it.... start to worry if you start the bike and the oil light stays on.... Hope that helps mate :-)

Hi,

Start the bike up and the light should go out...it is the oil pressure warning light (FI Light). you only need to worry if it a) stays on or b) comes on when your riding.

Ya, my oil light is on whenever its key on engine off.

You're FI light will stay on until you start the engine, IE if your key is in the ignition and the power is on, your FI light will show up which is fine. But if you're riding and its on you have a serious problem.

I'll cross my fingers and start it up tonight when I get home. I didn't want to start it up without checking 1st just to be safe.

the 2002 doesnt have an Fi light.

as said, its normal as its an oil pressure light.

engine off, no pressure, light on.

the oil light will come on whenever the engine is not running...because there is no oil pressure in the engine when it's off/dead/stalled/etc...

If you start it up and it's still on that means u have low oil pressure, but i doubt you stalling out caused you to loose oil.

Don't worry about it being damaged, it's fine...just stop stalling and you'll be good
