Hey guys I just got a Hero2 for my birthday.. I took the bike out for the first time and there is just too much vibration for my liking...
Also I used the skeleton backing on the housing itself so it was letting a lot of wind noise in. I think I am gonna try the waterproof one to see how it does.
What mounts do you guys use? I used the suction cup mount and I think its too long which is why it vibrated so much. (I was letting the curved helmet mount dry when I was out riding)
Heres the video.. (nothing crazy its just a test run, if you guys are familiar with me you will know I am waiting for some different tires to come in because the ones I have on the bike right now are toast)
You can see how long the mount is in the shadows on the pavement..
Here it is: ZX6R Hero2 footage - YouTube
Video gets cut off when the SD card runs out of memory..

Your upper fairing is likely a little wiggly/loose + the screen ain't the most secure/solid part on the bike (if infact you mounted to the screen)
I have to shim the 3M sticky mounts for a solid connection otherwise the mic picks up the wiggle and sounds like shoite.
Mount on top of the tank and try it again.

I use the suction mount a lot of the time, but have about 4 or 5 hard mounts on the bike in various spots. It will shake a bit. If you really want it to hold and not shake use the hard mounts. And like others have said. shim them and use the little rubber thingy to cut out noise from vibrations.
Have fun!

Yeah get it off your wind screen. When the fairing vibrates so does the camera. Mount it to your helmet.
What exhaust do you have? It sounds loud as hell. I like it.

Eww gross, Why get the hd hero 2 and use the 960 resolution. 720p 60fps works the best for motorcycles in my opinion. the hero 2 is capable of 120fps but only in 480p, so the quality isn't ideal for a bike.
I use the suction cup mount, open backing, and up to 4 extensions and rarely get vibrations. The windscreen is not good at all to mount the camera on because it doesn't support any weight.
Generally I mount mine beside the mirrors on the front fairing, or on the tank just behind the dampener. Sometimes I put it towards the bottom on the front right fairing to get the wheel in the shot.
Hero 2 is capable of 170 degree angle in 1080p currently, and a firmware update soon will allow the same fov in 720p.
It all comes down to, certain fairings are more secure than others. If there is any flex to the fairings than the camera may shake. Also, mounting it too close to the engine, it picks up the vibrations through the air and distorts the video through the lens.
You just need to experiment with it in different areas. You could use software to stabilize the video. Basically it zooms the video slightly and uses the bits outside the frames to move the picture so each frame seems to be in the same spot, and less shaky.
Ok, I'm done rambling now ;P

Hey guys thanks for all of the help..
I was just excited to pull it out of the box and give it a shot.. I will change up the resolution and all that.. And I had it mounted on the front fairing right next to the mirror mount.
Anyone know why the picture is all wavy? almost like heat coming off of a car on a hot day?

I use the suction cup on my gas tank which gives a good view but mine shakes way too much too. I even ran it through some stabilization software here: vmdirt's Channel - YouTube
That's also using the waterproof back.

Quick GoPro question, So We and sXzx6rXa have video footage but when i try to pull it into windows movie maker, it will not read it. It comes up as an mp4 and says the file may be corrupt?? It plays fine in any media play but not an editor. |

You need to use editing software! GoPRO and mine Midland XTC 300 record in MP4 the windows movie maker doesn't support (at least I can't get it to work) so I got myself Corel video studio pro ...AWESOME editing software with bunch of goodies packed inside ...I think it goes for around $50?!
