Heya guys. Anyone here has done this mod? I'm sort of hesitant about doing it myself...but if someone here who is competent with these types of things is willing to help, I'll be more than happy to provide beers and a meal as well as your gas fee
Let me know!
Thankies.

My brother Street Hawk has done it but he is in Florida. He can give you some pointers if you want. I wouldn't do it cause your butt will get sore on long rides or even short rides.

Electric bread knife & cheese grator was what I used on this for my nephew. But then, we weren't exactly going for asthetics either. But after the cover is put on, you can't see what's underneath.

I did it with an angle grinder and recovered seat. It is more comfortable with the angle I guess, but uncomfortable for padding. All in all it may be a good idea to change the angle and make it more comfortable, but I will be adding a layer of padding back to it and recovering. By the way marine fabric at a fabric store like Joanne fabrics is what I used to recover and it was only $10 for both seats, may colors to choose from. Stapled it on after pulling it tight. Issue was I got staples too close to where seat touches gas tank and caused scratches

+1 on all of the above. I shaved mine and I like it. I did it years ago and I'm still happy with it. And yes, JoAnns fabric has some none slip type black material. You can put the old fabric back on if you needed. A staple gun with 3/8" staples will work. Even a really sharp long bladed knife will work for cutting the foam.

When I was at the bike show the other day Saddlemen had their seats on display with a cut open seat with gel inside. I want one.

These guys have worked on my vehicles over the years and I'd recommend you bring your seat to them and explain in detail what you need done.
I used to take my Subaru to Garage GT which was right next door to RJ's. Good folks and shouldn't be too expensive. Ar-Jay's Upholstery - Kearny Mesa - San Diego, CA |
