I have a 09 and I recently put in a ddm 55 watt 5000k hid kit, I love it but I am not so in love with the stock projectors. I am looking to switch out the stock projectors and install true bi-xenon projectors so I can have two headlights with true low and high beam functionality. Has anyone opened up the stock headlights and removed the stock projectors or does anyone know if it is possible to remove the stock projectors. If anyone has done so and has pictures please share them.
This is the kit I am looking to install. Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (D2S) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc |

The thing that is holding me back from diving in to it right now is I absolutely do not want to have to do any cutting of the headlight. (I like to always have the ability to return to stock) Im simply just trying to find out if it is possible to remove the stock projector bowl and the lense. The cool part about this kit is that they say you will not have to do any cutting because of the way the new projectors are mounted.

I did a Retro Fit on my 04 but I used led's as my Low beams with Halo Rings and the Hi's were the HID pair. I have a set of Bi xenon projectors but would not want to install them to their full functunality. Seems there would be some hacking going on into the factory harness and relays in order to make the the Bi xenon's work properly with the Shrud Opening and Closing to make the output of the light change. My Advise is just leave it as is. I think the most time was spent in making the Projectors line up properly which you would probably have to do seeing the projectors are for universal applications and not speciffically for the bike. Just my .02

I hear ya es617, just the stock projectors while not terrible are not the best and were not designed for use with hid bulbs. The focus pattern of the light now with the hids is kinda off there is alittle bit of a dark spot in the center of the light pattern just under the cuttoff line. (due to the hid bulbs being longer then the halogen oens) I think I just may have to open up the headlights and see if this is going to be a project that will be do able without cutting the headlight to pieces to remove the old projectors and install the new. And interms of hacking into the stock harness, I think that may be avoidable. I know I will need to find a power supply for the motor on the new projectors which opperates the shutter but I could always use a splice connector for that and avoid any cutting of the harness.

Thats why i said the hacking would be done but you can easily do it this way with a external switch to the shrud motor. Best bet buy a set of headlights that way if you fuck up you can always just put the set thats untouched on. I sourced a extra set for my 04 when i had some people interested in me making them a retro fit but they never came through so now i have 3 oem head lights which im thinking going crazzy with one of the sets and even adding 4 Smaller sized projectors but id have to be really bored to mingle with that project
