Unhappy Dropped my Bike today

It Finaly happened after 3 years of close calls and near drops. If was very windy today 25 - 35 mph with 50 mph gust. I have ridden in windy conditions before but dam today was extra windy. I was slowing down at a red light and was going about 3 mph when a strong gust hit me on my right side so I leaned into the gust. But then I found myself falling over to the right soon as the gust stopped. It was like as if I was leaning on someone and that person suddenly move and you fall on your face. I have had close calls before like slipping on gravel or putting my feet down on uneven pavement but I have always been able to right myself.

I tried doing the butt on the gas tanks lift technique and using my legs to left the bike but since I have not practiced it and only seen videos I failed at it and had to gorilla lift the bike. The bike did not feel to heavy and came up on first try. All this happened today on my birthday of all days. And when I got home all the strong wind had knocks a 20 foot branch down from one of my pecan trees. Lucky it didn't fall on the dogs at least.

The only damage was minor scuffs on the right mirror, front brake lever, bar end, frame slider, rear brake lever and passenger peg. The frame slider kept my fairing and turn signal lights from damage so it does work. I went to the local auto parts store and bought flat black and silver touch up paints. Everything that was scuffed was black except the passenger peg. Unless you look really close you can't even tell there is scuffed marks. Hope this post wasn't to long. It was just one of those Fridays/birthdays my list of bad days to forget.

Oh man, dropping sucks. Just good thing you didn't hurt yourself or the bike too badly. But I had one of those days, only I was on the highway with the wind blowing fast, thats annoying.

ughhhhh that sucks dude. i'm glad you're keeping your chin up. i hate wind. with a passion. but at slow speeds like that, i drag my feet on the ground and that keeps it up.

i never did understand why people had trouble lifting bikes up. i see people teaching others to use certain techniques and all... i just lift it. i'm a weightlifter, but still... it pops up effortlessly. grab the front break and grip, grab somewhere near the seat, and lift.

well happy birthday to you eh?
at least the damage was minimal.

Happy B-day. Glad that you weren't REALLY rolling. Winds above 15 mph...I don't like to ride in, and try to avoid. That's enough to flip an 18 wheeler, so the bike isn't gonna see it if I can avoid it.

Thanks all that commented on my b-day.

I do put my feet down on windy days but I'm a short bastard and with both feet down I am literally on my toes even with the bike lowered 1 inch in front and back. I can keep the bike up with my toes in strong winds but today was just way to much for me to handle. I am on the ball of my foot if I one foot it in normal situations. I have no problem balancing the bike its a very light bike.

I do check weather each morning before leaving for work and today it showed gusty winds. I didn't think anything of it that morning until I saw trees bend over at work before leaving for home later the day. Yes, I use a supersport to commute to work, lol but its so much fun.

I made a video and uploaded it to my youtube account. Its really minor scratches. In case anyone else has to do touch up paints then they will have an idea of what it looks like.
