No new zx6r for 2012

But Kawasaki may have a new sports tourer up their sleeves

IN the past there's been a fairly straightforward pattern of development for Kawasaki's sports bikes and whenever a ZX-10R was launched you could be sure a ZX-6R was coming the next year. This year it's different, with leaked documents suggesting that the 2012 ZX-6R will be just the same as the current one.

While we haven't actually seen the bike, so it could get cosmetic updates, we can reveal that the new machine has the same engine specification as the current model, along with the same weight suggesting it's going to continue without any significant upgrades.

By pushing the replacement on to 2013 or beyond, that means the bike which has traditionally been updated every two years will go on to be at least four years old, maybe more, before it's replaced.

What will Kawasaki have that's new in 2012? Japanese insiders are saying that a ZZ-R1400 update is coming as a response to the latest Hayabusa.

found this on visordown.com..

how can kawasaki expect someone to pay nearly 9k for a 4 year old design

The current model is still a benchmark of the supersport class. The fact that they have changed little to nothing over the past 4 years and it is still capable in every aspect from handling to straightline power just goes to show how much time and thought was put into this model of the zx6. Yeah, its true a new one is due, but I myself am impressed that the other 3 out of the big 4 have somewhat been playing a game of catchup to this ninja. Its awesome and it just goes to show we ride the best!

Just my two cents!

Yeah there's no point in buying new in my opinion if you could save a few thousand dollars on a low-mile 09/10/11 ZX6R. You'll get a warranty of course, but still, I've never had to take my bike in for any maintenance, so it's a good thing I never bothered paying for an extended warranty. *knock on wood*

The Daytona was a contender for my $ but I got my 6r out the door for about 3k less so it won. The Daytona is one sexy bike though and I would love to own one.

Not updating the 6r is probably a financial decision. The market for bikes is down so all manufactures seem to be spreading out the time between model updates. Asterics also has a good point, the 09 was such a vast improvement that the other manufactures are all playing catch up. The new Gixxers went with the big piston fork that the 6r has.

The big 4 all seem to have the strategy of spreading out their r&d a bit longer to weather the economic downturn.

You will find that all the manufactures now will only do major updates every 3-4 years due to rising costs. The r6 has pretty much stayed the same since 2006, the CBR the same. The 675 did not change for 3 years and when it did it was only minor changes. Susy changed their gsxr range nearly every year or two until now.

The current zx6, 675, gsxr600 will not change for a few years as they are all solid and amazing bikes. The CBR and R6 will have a change next year or so as they are falling behind.

Same here.. got the 6r for a lot less. No Triumph dealer would budge on price, but a Kawi dealer done the business for me. Also with 0% interest for 3 years...
