I found 2 brand new bikes. One is located 25 minutes from me. The other is located in Florida. (I live in NY)
The local bike is a 2010 (twenty-ten year) ZX6R Green/Black for $7699 + taxes/fees/etc
The bike in FL is a 2011 (twenty-eleven year) ZX6R Green/Black for $7498 + taxes/fees/shipping/etc
No, that is not a typo... $7498 for a brand new 2011... I already called the dealer to confirm.
Shipping will cost me $661.
Which one do I go for?
PS: The best price I can find around here for a brand new 2011 ZX6R is $9500 + taxes/fees/etc

Go for the 2010 you wont have to wait and its the same bike for less, if you aren't looking to keep it for a good amount of time go for the 2011 because it'll be worth a tiny bit more.

Plus you will be able to talk the dealer down more on the 2010.
Good luck!

I *wanted* to get a 2010 brand new, and it would have been much cheaper, but someone beat me to it. So I had to get the 2011. Aw, shucks |

I'd say 2010...
It's less money overall for the same bike. And being in the car business I've learned that if you can get away from transporting anything like this you're better off. Things happen in transport that can't always be explained (Even though there's a perfectly good reason).
Go local...
When I have people come in asking if I can help them with their car I ask them..."Who was your sales person?" If they didn't buy it here... I tell them they need to speak to the person that sold them the car as that was their job. I don't get paid by the hour... Might sound harsh but that's the truth. Their salesperson didn't do their job... and now I'm going to have to do it for them.
So having a local dealer on your side is always better. Have you talked to the local dealer and asked if they'll match the deal on the '11? I'd go that route too... I'd rather match a deal and keep a client local than watch them go somewhere else when I can make the deal.

Thanks for the input everyone!
Some things I wanted to make clear...
These prices are the lowest I could get each dealer to go. No one will budge on any bike's price beyond what's been posted. I can't get the 2010 to go any lower than $7,699.
I told the NY dealer about the 2011 for $7498 and at first they literally laughed at that price and said it had to be bogus. Said no way that's possible. I told them I have several dealers out of state ready to make it happen. They said if the price is legit, to go with the other dealers. They couldn't match.
Another way I see this whole thing is... basically it's a ~$500 difference between both bikes. Isn't it a wiser choice to go with the 2011 for just ~$500 more? The depreciation alone on the 2010 is surely more than ~$500.
Don't get me wrong.. I would much prefer to do this locally... but I want to ask all the right questions first before making a purchase decision.
@ PowerGroove... i agree with what you said but don't dealerships want my business in parts and services regardless of where I bought the bike?

I would do the 2011 bike and how long would it take to ship it to you?

But think about it this way. A dealer is more willing to cut you a break on parts and/or accessories if you bought it from them. If you bought it in Florida and went in for new grips at your local shop... they're charging you full price. Maybe they'll cut you a small discount on them since you've already spent $8000 with them.
Also... if there's a problem... you have a local sale guy to kick around. That's what I tell all of my clients looking to go buy out of town. Also... think about this... do you want your sales tax dollars going to another state? Buying local helps local economy. your tax dollars are going right back into your community.

When you get the bike to your home state and go to register it... you're paying taxes. Bottom line... the government WILL get their money.

... | Good point, but get an insurance quote too. Then take that difference and multiply by the life of the bike, and add that to the 500. It will probably be next to nothing, but my insurance quote on a 2011 was slightly more than the 2010.
It would be wiser to go for a 2011 if it were superior, but it isn't really. Unless I'm wrong, they're literally the same bike with different color options. If there's an actual difference, then sure, but if not you're basically suggesting that one digit is worth 500 dollars, or roughly 6.67 percent of the purchase price of the motorcycle.
So two cans of cheese x, and one says "betta cheese" on the label, so you pay 6.6 percent more for it.
If you asked me, you don't even have a dilemma. I would LOVE to have been able to deal locally for less money. One thing you might do though is get the out-the-door price from both places to make sure neither the remote dealer nor the local one is going to hit you with a grand in fees and setup charges.

i think u are right.. bikes are identical.. just different color options... can anyone confirm?
i know $500 is small beans in the short run, but in the long run i figure it will pay me back in dividends if i ever wanna get rid of it... the bike is a year newer..
decisions..
i'll be sure to get the out the door prices from both dealers tomorrow morning!
