2006 ZX-6R Rebuild Thread. Lots of Pics.

I figured it's about time to start one of these. I'll be doing yet another one on my '04 later on. This will be the rebuild process of my girlfriends' 2006 636. We got it in bad shape. Busted/broken tail, bent rim, bad tires, dead battery, etc, etc.

This is the first day we brought it home. It sat for about a week until we got a new rim on it.



Here it is after I got the used rim on it. Can't really tell how bad the tail is but trust me, it was shattered.


I removed the stupid car exhaust it came with and put the stock can back on. I ordered a OEM tip from Vampyre here on the forum and bought a used tail from a friend for $50. Also put on a new 520 RK chain kit with vortex sprockets.

Then I decided it needed a repaint. This is my FIRST attempt at sanding and repainting. Go easy on me. Used 320, 400, and 600 grit sandpaper to wet sand.










She's almost naked!!

How the hell did the tail get screwed up and none of the front bike? Did he go 40 mph backwards into a tree and it fell over on pillows? Or was it rear ended cause the rest of the bike (in the pics at least) looks good.

Anyhow a little paint or wrap that tail and nobody will know any different.

Actually, the previous owner hit a curb and flipped!! lol. The front cowl is broken but Im gonna fiberglass it tonight. One of the headlight mounting tabs is broken too. But I figure it's alright for what my gf will use it for. She probably won't ride it as much...not as much as I will =P
