Got all my parts on order and when all was said and done, I can't afford the 200 dollars for a new tank. My old one does not leak but it has a giant dent in it.
I googled my options. Many said just throw it out. Some said it was possible to take a small hammer to the inside of it.
I was thinking about taking a hammer to it and getting the dent out the best I can and then sanding it down with filler primer then painting it to match my new fairings.
I've also seen vinyl wraps. Since my new fairings are gloss white, I'm thinking of vinyl wrapping the tank. Any one ever deal with vinyl wraps?
Am I wasting my time? Anyone have experience with stuff like this?

Shit, I'm an idiot.
I realized that on my profile, it says I own a 05 636.
This is actually for my 07 ZX6R.
I found a used tank for 200 shipped but its red.

Seems repairable.Ask for a body shop that does that short of stuff for a price to fix it.They use some bent piece of metal through the gas cap hole to push the dent out as much as possible and then the usual stuff...

I guess I have nothing to lose. Maybe take a thick piece of metal and hammer it out and level it out through filler and sanding.

It's not going to be worth the hassle to try to push that dent out for the .05 gallon increase in capacity. Just put the body filler on it, shape it, and respray it.

Call/E-mail Johan @ sportbikeplasticsrepairs.com. send him a pic. He's one of the few ppl around that actually pulls the dent rather than filling it. He does great work. Last time I talked to him, I asked about my friend's dented tank...he said he does tanks for anywhere from $135-190 depending on the size/location of the dent. You can E-mail him a pic right through his website and he'll reply w a quote usually same day. You canto haggle a little bit w him too. Tell him Moody sent you. He just painted/repaired a nose fairing for me.

At least not for that kind of coin. Less labor means less cost.

If you want it done right, this would be better than a big chunk of filler.
Here's the deal... buying a used tank still leaves you with the cost of having it repainted. So just have yours repainted and have the guy fix the dent at the same time for a few extra $$. Any body shop guy can fix as he paints - note some body shops will not deal with tanks (explode). See if Moody's guy can spray it too. I could get it fixed and painted around here for $200.

It has zero significance. You're talking what, 5 ounces of filler? And if you're really concerned with weight, mix micro balloons in with the filler. That's what's done on aircraft to reduce the weight of filler: 3M GLASS BUBBLES from Aircraft Spruce
