Hotbodies Undertail Kit

Finally got it in the mail! It's the Transparent Smoke one so it basically looks makes the tail light blacked out when it is not running. I will post some before and after pics later today when I'm done with the install. Other people said its a pain in the ass so wish me luck!

Im no safety advocate but there is a fine line i wont cross between mods that will get you run over or ones that will save you. Personally i would never sport smoked anything when it comes to lights on a bike. The better a motorist sees you the better it is for me. To each their own though....

Hey sorry for the delay. I ended up getting pretty hammered on Cinco De Mayo (Go figure, right?) so I'm tackling it today for the most part. I'm actually in the middle of painting it matte black around the actual "light portion". The whole piece comes transparent and i didn't really like the thought of putting it on and not having it mesh with the rest of the bike. I think you guys will like the final product. I may not assemble tonight, but i will at least post a photo of the finished paint job.

^ I understand what your saying, but I think you misunderstood. It's only blacked out when it is not RUNNING. So when it is running it is very visible still. Here's a video of a guy that already has the same undertail installed, you'll see what I mean. Sorry if i didn't explain it clearly the first time around.

So here's a look at the finished paint job. I took a picture of it towards the light so you can see where I taped off for the actual tail light to shine through. I really like the way it looks. It'll look a lot better when I can get a picture of it in the daylight. Here's a couple for now though.

Thanks man. I just did a quick side to side comparison with my mid fairings since their matte black as well and it meshes almost perfectly.

So, for anyone that has been looking at this undertail kit, DON'T buy the pre-painted kit. Save yourself the $60, order the transparent black, and paint it at home.

The paint I used was the Rust-Oleum Paint For Plastic in Satin color.

I understand how it works, but you do realized anything that is made "stealthy" will cost you some amount of light output as its not completely transparently clear so a lot of light is actually lost regardless if their claim is when it's park. It's like window tint, sure I can see through it but it's not as clear as if it didn't have any tint at all. Either way it's your bike, it looks good, keep the rubber side down and ride safe.

Understood

It is taking a bit of a risk, but I trust the amount of light still being emitted. I will post a video when i actually have it installed.

Honestly though is it really going to change that much of "safety"? No! Its not. I have ridden behind guys with smoked lens and with regular lens right beside each other, and you can hardly tell the difference. Cagers don't pay attention to you regardless! Stay alert of your surroundings is our best defense, even behind you.

Here it is on and i would have never painted it. It looks good the way it is but maybe the flat wont scratch off when your fighting to get that thing on. and plenty of light my friends!
