I'm looking at getting a zx6r soon but i don't know whether i should get a new 2013 one stock or just go with an 09 with upgrades, the 09 i
was looking at
Ninja zx 6r Kawasaki Green w/ great extras and fresh underglow
or the 2013

coming from a 09 owner get the 13' that 09 has a black tank...claims it was a replacement for his dented green one...if he bought the tank new why wouldn't he buy a green one?

plus those "upgrades" are very basic

Is this your first bike?
Do you have all your gear? If not, budget gear costs into final price. Expect to put another $1000-1500 in gear.
Any bike that has been crashed needs to be inspected thoroughly. If you don't feel confident with inspection, take someone along with some experience. Have a good look at the OEM parts removed. If they are damaged you can get an idea of what other damages may be present.
The '09 looks okay, but as mentioned earlier, the mods are minimal.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum

I've actually had a ninja 250 since 09 and this would be my first 600 and i've made my mind up to go with the zx6r just hard to decide if i should go with a dealer left over '13 or just buy used, luckily i already have gear so i'll save a little there, thanks hopefully i'll be posting a zx6r pic soon xD

Don't let little mods sway you. It's always nice taking a cherry bike and making her yours

Don't think the different generations are night and day comparisons either. (You will be just as fast on a 03/04 as you will be on a 15 for a little while at least) if you can find the bike you want that's a couple years older and a couple grand cheaper go for it! You have a very likely chance of destroying the first bike anyway.

I'd investigate a bit further with the '09. See about maintenance history/work receipts.
The '13 advertisement just sounds odd. "FREE OIL CHANGE For LIFE" sounds like BS. Their website just wreaks, so tacky.
Look at their 'award'....lols! Yes, I am judging a book by its cover.

Take your time. There's plenty of either of these bikes out there, don't get too trigger happy

It'll mainly be for driving to work, i work 6 days a week so i need it to be reliable which makes me lean toward a newer bike a 2013 leftover sounds like it may be best then upgrade over time for next season, that's true i'll try and get a '13 for around 9k otd this week if not i'll go back to looking for a '09 for 5500-7k

I'd go with the '13 for sure (636>600). And personally, I wouldn't even consider buying from a dealer unless you had some extra ninety to piss away. Buy private and you'll get a better deal 99% of the time.

Dude, that award is crap! I recently got an email from the local city claiming that the machine shop (LCM) got a "Best Of" award recognizing us for being the "best" machine shop in town. It turned out, that the first machine shop to "donate" $149 to the city get a placard and it was even more for the trophy. Pretty much a big fundraising award scam that apparently the cities across America are doing.

I will see if I can get a screen shot.

In the end, all you really have is body and mind.

If you can find a used bike that is bone stock -- buy that. Cheapest route.

If you are not mechanically inclined, go ahead and buy the leftover in the crate bike. The biggest hassle there, is the greater price, but you have a much greater peace of mind.

Modifications are by and large done by people who don't know what they are doing, which results in poor workmanship, which MAY lead to significant issues, later.

If you start with a 'clean slate' your odds of having a long successful relationship with your bike are significantly improved.
