And yes, street riding loses it's luster the very first lap around the track.

Don't worry about trying to get your knee down right now. Knee down is just a byproduct of proper riding position.
Try shifting your ass over a little more to the inside. drop your inside elbow. point your chest into the apex, and your outer nipple onto the inside of the tank.
Perfect example: myself.
Here is me when I first started riding. Notice how my bottom half is cocked out but you can see me fighting to keep my upper half upright. Almost like my chest is a gyro with a pivot point at my hips.
