Winter project.

Okay guys I am looking for a good way to spend the months as I cannot ride my bike. I want to change up a little about it, I want to make it unique and custom. I also what to change it up as to receive better performance from it.

It's an 01 6r that is in pretty nice shape. I want to go through and service every thing that isn't up to date.

I have a few questions on what I should do, everything is stock except the two-bros slip on. I do not like the rear tail section, I want it more like the GIXXER or the CBR, how it goes up more as you get further back (in pic below) on the zx it stays straight out towards the rear.. Has anyone tried retrofitting the Gxxir/CBR fairing on the sub frame of the zx? What kind of problems would I run into? I also like the tail light that the gixxer/CBR has, would I be able to use that if I can get the fairing mounted? I want an integrated light and blinkers.

I want to upgrade my suspension, I weigh 175 what do I need to do, I want a smooth ride that handles good.

I want to retrofit projectors in my stock headlight housing, will the stock wiring and electrical system be able to handle the extra draw from the HID's?

I also what to go ahead and get the bike painted while I have it torn down, frame and all.. what do you think is a good color scheme?

Also what mods should be done to the bike while it is apart? I wanted to stunt it out but I don't really want to wreck it, I really enjoy it for just riding around town, maybe a few wheelies but nothing to big. Should I upgrade chain and sprockets?? what are some good ideas for those?

I think while it is down I will go ahead and upgrade to braided lines and new levers, what have y'all had luck with??

I may go ahead and shorten the pipe and gut it, how do you think it would sound?

Should I swap to newer rotors and rims off of the newer model bikes, heard some of the models fit, is it true?

Basically I want to go through and make it a "like new" bike that is half-way customized. lol any help would be appreciated, and much needed!! Once I figure out what I will be doing (with yalls help) I will begin the tear down and keep a picture blog of the progress! Let the fun begin!

Yea I had seen it somewhere but wasn't sure, then was just looking on there and it was Quarks. How did she do it? Quarks, what all did it take to fix that sub frame, could I do it with the 01 SF to fit an 03/04 tail?

As much as I don't want to direct you to another forum, you'll find this thread pretty useful:
http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=98579

Or you could buy another bike with the features you want as standard

i think quarkz is using the 03/04 subframe b/c the mounting points for the fairings etc are different. that would be your biggest issue i think. and mounting the taillights. i think she had to do some customizing to the subframe for it to fit the 02 frame. it's just 4 bolt holes that have to line up, but i dont think they do without customizing. i could be wrong about that...?

you need to adjust your stock suspension some i think. it offers a pretty good range of adjustability for street riding, imo. there arent going to be a lot of products for sport bikes that are aimed at giving a smoother ride.

i think the user 'vbroom' has hids...give him a yell. though, the 00-02 headlights are freakin bright in stock form.

i personally like the white/black color scheme, but it's very subjective. to do your frame properly you need to powdercoat it, and that will require taking the frame off the bike, which means taking the bike off the frame. including the engine and errthing. you can definately do it, im just saying its a lot more work than popping off the fairing and getting them painted.

a good sprocket size is -1 (front) and +2 (rear) from the stock sizes. that's kind of the standard change from stock, and it will make it easier to wheelie but won't lose a lot of top end.

pazzos are legit levers, and also check out ian's new levers. look in the site vendor forum for info.
as far as brake lines, i'd go with some galfers, but i dont have experience with them.

i wouldnt shorten the pipe. it's your body you do what you want, though.

newer model wheels could be cool, just make sure they fit properly. they may require a spacer or something, and i know the rotor size has changed some years, but do your research and you can find out what all is needed.

Wasn't sure if you were still looking for one of these but I came across these two on ebay while doing some searching and thought I'd post a link to them for you.

whew those are nice SF's but are quite a bit out of the price range lol I am trying to do this on a low budget. I've been looking over at Kawiforums, under the master 98-02 mod list, and i see someone made the 05-06 SF work but i cannnot see the pictures, anyone know how he did this?
