It was stupid having to rev my bike while pushing the starter when at the gas station or in the canyons. My bike is a cali model so I thought it might be the extra emissions stuff we have. Bypassed all that and still had the problem. Next I tried getting my ecu replaced by my local dealer, but they wanted way too much money. There was never an official recall, but some people had luck getting Kawasaki to replace the ecu for free under warranty, but I bought my bike used so I was SOL. I ended up buying a used cali model ecu on ebay, swapped it out and now the bike starts the first time, every time. If you pull your ecu the part number you probably have is 21175-0812 112100-9872. You want 21175-0812 112100-9874.

Edit: Forgot to mention I had the low idle, slow start when the bike was "cold" like you have. The ecu swap fixed that too.
Have you had any problems yet? Or has it completely fixed it?

My bike just started acting up after I put block off plates in. It died mid ride, in the middle of the rpm range. I pull over and it cranked but didnt turn over. It wouldn't even push start (Maybe I was just too weak). After about 20 to 30 minutes it started and it was fine. I rode it half a mile and it died again. Repeated the same process and it started. I rode it to my friend's house and checked to make sure I did the block off plates right and I also put in new spark plugs. Rode about 10 minutes, died again, waited 20, started, rode 10 minutes, died, started after 5 minutes, rode 5 minutes, died, started after 1 minute.
I noticed it had the same ecu number as your bad one. So I might just buy the Good ecu number you found

I think the dealer will change it out under warranty.

I actually just put the smog stuff back in my bike and it hasn't died randomly yet. I read somewhere that for fuel I ejected bikes you have to reset the way by unplugging the battery for a few. I might try that and see if it works once I put the plates back in.

EDIT: It turned off randomly today 5/19/17
I'm guessing it is my ecu since my bike was assembled February 2012 (I called kawi) and the way issue was fixed after june 2013

Hey, no I haven't had any issues since I swapped my ECU. Hope you figure things out.
