What is this carb part ?? 95 zx6r

I have been doing a little work on this new to me 95 zx6r. Cleaned the carbs and set the floats and I'm starting to make some headway.

This part is not listed in any carb diagram I have seen...I'm guessing it is part of some kit ?? what kind of kit I don't know, the needles are also not stock as far as I can tell.

Can anyone identify this, is it something that is critical??

here is a link to a few more pics of the unkown part: http://img27.imageshack.us/gal.php?g...wncarbpart.jpg

It could be an aftermarket jet kit, though I'm a 100% on that since I've never installed one.

These just slip over the bottom of the emushion tube I guess you would call it. I thought it was part of it till I turned the carbs upsidedown and one of them dropped out. They are just a loose press fit, push them over the tube with your fingers, no o-rings or any clip. These would be at the base of the main jet holder.

Anyone seen these in a jet kit, if so what kind was it. the main jets are stamped 144, and that's all..no logo or brand name. The needles have absolutly no marking of any kind on them. The slow jets are stamped 35 with what looks like maybe a eagles head outline or something, perhaps it's the manf logo ? ?

I would say that they are used to help "vaporize" the fuel as it comes out of the emulsion tube. Is it a required part? probably not. Does it make a difference? Maybe, but it seems a little iffy to me.

I am great with carbs, and I'd say it is a sound idea and I'd like to play with the carbs a bit to see if it makes a difference. But something inside me says that you may run a more consistent fuel ratio without them.

Trial and error man. Test and tune is the fun part about having a carb'd bike. :-)

I had a post over on SBN, slimjim ID'ed them as part of a K&N carb kit, he had a 95 and had put this kit on his bike.
The bike has not pulled as well as it did before worked on the carbs. I noticed when I had the bike running to sync the carbs when you blip the throttle, they shoot a small spray of gas out....I recall that they were pointing toward the intake valves when I first took the carbs apart. Now however they always rotate around so the holes face air filter. The holes are only on the one side, so the loose fit lets the heavy side rotate down...no holes on the other side.

slimjim told me that these get glued in pointing toward the intake valves with superglue...
I'm going to clean up the base and give then a drop of superglue and try the bike again before I make anyother changes. If it pulls like I know it can with this change I will remove them and clean where they mount and use a couple drops of epoxy so they stay in place for good. Then I will continue to experiment with needle position, float level, etc:

thanks for the input guys, I'll keep plugin away at it.

I thought it looked like they only had holes on the one side. Thats why I didn't much care for the parts, as it would do just as it was doing, rotate. The idea is that the fuel comes out if the small holes facing the valves and vaporizes better. Good idea, i just wonder how affective they are. Good luck tuning :-)
