3rd gear rattling!

Hi I just purchased an 05 zx6r and after changing the oil I took it for a ride and when in 3rd gear it rattles loudly when I give throttle. All the other gears are fine but 3rd and it's rattle. I spoke to the previous owner who stated that he did not have any problems with 3rd or any gears at all. I have no idea what it can be but I'm really hoping it's not major.

Any help, suggestions, ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

If it is rattling it might be a cause of the specific gear. If it doesnt come of gear or it doesnt lose the gear once you put 3rd on it .i mean the cogwheel.

No it doesn't jump out of gear, it rattles loudly when I give throttle. I was trying to figure out a way to ride and record the sound so I put my phone in my sock and recorded it but now I have no idea how to post it so you can hear.

It stays in gear but just makes this loud rattling noise. I recorded it but don't know how I'd be able to post it here.

Upload it to YouTube, and then post a link to it.

At the 33 second mark it rattles in 3rd and if you notice I let off the throttle then at the 37 second mark I gave it a little throttle and it didn't do it but when I gave a little more it did.

I really hope not. After further investigation and speaking to other people my chain is extremely loose and a tooth on my rear sprocket is broke off so according to them that is more than likely the problem. I HOPE!!!

Plan to replace both sprockets, along with the chain.

Odds are good the front is worse than the back.

Do you intend to do this yourself?

Yeah I plan on buying the chain & sprocket kit but will not be doing it myself. I pray that it will fix the rattle.

Does it do it in higher gears as well?

Did you simply try adjusting the chain to the correct free pay and see if the problem goes away (you still need new chain and sprockets)...

But my point is--- If after you spend money on chain and sprockets and install and if there is actually a transmission problem, are you prepared to go all in and pay out to fix that as well? Or did you just waste money on chain and sprockets to only scrap the bike??

Stupid people say stupid things on the internet, so be wary of who those people are. If you solicit advice on the internet, just keep in mind 99% of what you'll receive is not based on fact or science-and likely atleast 95% of it is based on bullshit and bravado regurgitated from some other schlub who also did not experience any of what they claim and are also full of shit. If you don't like my bluntness- too bad. I am not here to please you, so move along, your approval is not desired nor is it needed. So before opening your pie hole and adding more stupidity, perhaps sit back, listen, absorb and learn something. You know that saying, it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

If the transmission is broken then you're wasting money buying a chain and sprockets. If you do, get vortex sprockets, they're sexy.

Kind of sounds like you got scammed by the previous owner dude. Did you not take it for a test run?
