I haven't tried the Q3s (they're not available in the UK... and probably won't be for a while), but I always raced on Dunlops. Not the out-and-out grip of some others I've tried, but they'll just about give you a written letter and three phone calls notice before they begin to slide. When they do, it's really nicely controllable, even when they're fragged. They've never been favourites in the wet though.

I'd really recommend getting the wheels balanced. Just because one wheel didn't seem that bad on one circuit, on one tyre, on one bike...

I've felt the difference when weights have come off and other times it's made no odds. However, I do prefer having one less vibration or thing to worry about when I'm trying to go all mushroom cloud around a circuit.

1999 ZX6R (G2) - Pipewerx exhaust (dB killer removed) | Dynojet Stage 1 | K&N air filter | flushmount front LED indicators | Clear LED tail light with integrated indicators | Scottoiler eSystem | Pyramid Plastics hugger | HID headlight | Stubby levers | HEL braided steel lines | 07 ZX6R radial master cylinder | Bar-end mirrors | Double-bubble screen | Crash bobbins | one hell of an anal-retentive owner.

Got the front wheel off and the fork tubes loose. Forgot to pick up the seals yesterday though so I didn't have those to actually put on yet, I'll get to that Monday I think.

Also here's my ghetto farmered up front axle tool haha. Worked like a charm

Also was hoping I wouldn't need front brake pads but that's not a reality, so add them to the list.

Sorry missed the valve question. Most likely for this season you will be fine.
Novice isn't as hard on the engine compared to I and A groups.

Tires and brakes they say 50% or better for Tech. SO if in doubt replace.
Would really, really suck to fail tech and not run. OR at least get them and take to the track, worst case you replace them there. While your missing one session at least.

The pads and tires are both definitely shot. Pads have probably 15-20% life left, tires aren't safe period. New tires were delivered yesterday and I'll be ordering pads tonight. Not the end of the world, it's only like 70 bucks for the ebc HH pads that sbk recommended in eldioblo's thread for a novice rider.

I'm starting to get excited honestly. My suit and gloves will be here this week coming up, the tires are here and I'm ready to do the forks which are the last major thing IMO. I think the bike will be ready for the track by next weekend so I'll take it for a quick spin around the block and make sure we're good to go.

Really need boots now!

Yo that "quick spin" make sure the throttle cable is adjusted for your left and right turns also your tires are clean. But the ebc pads are fucking awesome. Ps bedding them in during your track day sucks. Try to get some time on the bike before you go.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll try to put 50 miles or so on before I load it up to go. I want to make sure the tires are scrubbed in a bit as well. I'm falling behind though, I thought I had something in the shop I could use to compress my fork springs but it wasn't quite large enough in diameter so I spent an hour looking for anything else that would work and had to give up. I did just find something in my basement which will save me the trip of going to get something. I'm HOPING I can finish the forks tomorrow night, and get the rest of the bike put back together thursday night. Hoping. Then I want to do a little dicking around on it and hopefully have it loaded by the end of the weekend.

The forecast is calling for a lot of rain and cold next weekend though. I may not be registering right away.. if it is going to be shitty I don't want to waste my money. I'll call and see how many openings are left, if they're not about to be full up I'm not going to rush to register.

Honestly rain is good. Kinda miserable overall but learning on the track I had more fun in the rain than the next day in the dry (where I crashed) If it does rain next weekend ima go and enjoy the he'll out of it

Used EBC HH's until I got bumped up to I group. Those pads treated me just fine in N group as did the Michelin PP3 tires. I used them with the EBC Dot 4 break fluid and never found my breaks fading etc etc, most likely due to the Novice pace and the quality products EBC produces at their price points

When I check the fork oil level, obviously the outer tube has to be all of the way down. Is that all of the way down with the dust seal pushed into the outer tube, or no? Does the outer tube even go down that far? Random thought I had while thinking about working on things today.
