2013 ecu

My bike has had the cold start trouble from day 1,had it to the dealer many times and no fix.Had the ecu replaced during one of those visits and still won't cooperate.Just got it back Saturday from the dealer(since Oct) and low and behold its still not fixed after they changed the whole throttle body assy/injectors.So needles to say I'm tired of taking it there for nothing even though its still under warranty til july.I'm wondering If the ecu from a 2015 will fit the bike and run correctly as I'm at the point of buying a used one from ebay just to see if this is the trouble.I think the new ecu they put in has trouble also but they won't replace it again. So my question is if I buy the 2015 stock ecu can I put it in my bike and it will run correctly?

Do you have lemon laws in Canada? When I lived in New Jersey, I successfully filed a lemon law case against a car dealer that couldn't fix a leaking sun roof on a new car.

The law in Jersey, which I think is similar across the U.S., affords the dealer 3 attempts to fix the problem before a lemon law claim can be made.

It was super easy because there were Lemon Law Lawyers that take your case on the contingency that they will not charge you fees if they lose and they build their fees into the decision/settlement of your case, not taken from your awards. I took a $3 grand settlement for the issue. Was very minimal paperwork. Just was a lot of waiting. Basically got $3 grand off a new car for a problem I eventually got fixed. But an issue like yours, you can elect for a vehicle replacement.

Worth looking into.

Other advice would be to try another Kawasaki dealer.

Or contact Kawasaki directly. You'd be surprised at their customer service. I'm sure Kawasaki has field reps that bounce between dealers. They might send somebody out to consult. It's coming out of their pocket anyway. This happened with another one of my vehicles that was having an Air Bag issue. I got an actual specialized Tech with my car brand to come out and fix the issue.

Can you check the numbering on your ECU?
The ECU that has the second number ending in 8963 should fix your issue.
If it's an 8962 or prior it won't.

Already did the check for the proper ecu number last year and mine has the 9863 ecu, think you may have you numbers mixed up.

Nope, my numbers are fine.
I had mine swapped and had to supervise the numbering change myself after they swapped it twice for ECUs that didn't solve the issue.

Oh, wait. I did have the two first digits mixed up.
My bad.
The important thing is that the last two are 63.
If they already are and you still have the issue, I'm afraid I can't help you.

If it's under warranty have the dealer troubleshoot it and report back. If not I highly suggest changing the spark plugs. I'm just saying because I had issues with starting too but changing the plugs solved it. . Just personal experience, not anything solid here.

No, no, no, no.... You check the battery and replace the spark plugs. Then you A) know the job was in fact done; & B) you know the job was done correctly. Don't take some chimp's word for it.

Went back to the dealer yesterday and showed the new service manager the video and he was kind of surprised. He went and talked to the mechanic(I could hear them)and he said he was stumped with the bike.My warranty is running out and they don't know how to fix it.He said he will send the video to kawi and see if they suggest anything. If there were another dealer around I would take it there but there isn't.I'm not the type to just live with this problem so I may have to sell this bike and get something else.I know the battery is new because they filled it with acid when I got it,as for the plugs I am just relaying what they said.Back to my original post as the question I asked never really got answered, will the 2015 ECU work in a 2013?

If they can't fix it under warranty they MUST get you a new bike.

Go to a different dealer. Mine had the same issue as all other 13s. Took it to dealer, the were able to immediately duplicate the issue and ordered a new ECU right then. Few days later, I was good to go with no trouble since then.
