2013 636 RCS Hyperpro Steering Damper help.

Just switched from a Honda to Kawasaki, it's a 2013 ZX-6R (non ABS), looking to see if the 2012 mounting kit for an RCS Hyperpro Steering Damper will fit in the 2013.

Hyperpro's catalog states RCS can be mounted up to 2012 but shouldn't 09 and up be universal top tank fit?

Wasn't able to find just the mounting bracket itself. the Damper is SD STROKE 75 (MK-KA10-T006) which is compatible with ZX-6R (coming off a 2005 CBR 600RR).

So my question is, can I purchase the 2012 636 mounting kit and use the damper that I already have on the 2013 636?

Thanks and glad to be apart of the Kawa fam!

Not sure exactly how that mounts but the 09-12 came stock with an Ohlins steering damper. So they already have all the screws and such for a damper to be mounted. On a 13 and up they dont have that. You can still get mounts though its just slightly different. So im not sure if a 12 mount would work for you.

With that said, I have no experiance with the brand youre talking about, just wanted to share the info about why an 09-12 mount isnt necessarily universal.

Just based off the changes from the 2012 to 2013 (which included changes to the forks and and the front suspension), I would definitely be cautious about the compatibility. So if the manufacturer is saying only 2009-2012, especially 5 years into the current Gen, they probably mean that. You could of course, contact them.

I've contacted them and they're not compatible. . . . however, if you are adamant about installing an alternate unit and want a hyperpro @ZedExMuse has successfully done so by buying a cheap chinese unit just for the mounting hardware. (continue at your own risk)

I contacted Hyperpro directly, and they told me flat out that they don't make a mount for the '13+, period!

So I went out on eBay and bought one. I already had the damper on hand - I had used it on two different R1s that had previously owned. So, that was essentially free. And when I bought the damper mounting kit, which contained all the needed hardware was even less - maybe $38.00 to my door. I always use a wee drop of medium Loctite on the screws.

For KAWASAKI ZX-6R ZX-636 ZX6R 2013 Street Bike Steering Damper Mounting Kit | eBay

Note the price - that even included a new 'old style' steering stem nut. I'm a happy camper. One cannot use the large round style nut found on the ≥ '13+.

Note: measure your diameter of your damper (metric) and make sure the new clamp is big enough. Some are for the Toby damper which is smaller. The clamp is supposed to be a tight fit, but if it's for the Toby one, and you have Hyperpro it will be too tight.

Once you get the mounting kit, it is the same exact design as the one Kawasaki sells through their accessories catalogue for the Öhlins damper. Hmmmm, makes one wonder. I'm not saying it's the exact same thing, but it is the same design. Food for thought.
