03 zx6rr Potential track bike.... what to look for?

Hey folks just had a couple questions. Long story short I'm getting ready to trade my 400sm for a 03 zx6rr (599cc) and was curious if there are any inherent problems or things to look for in the 03-04 gen. I'm turning it into a track bike. I've owned both a couple kawis (02zx6r & 05 636 which had 42K Hard miles before I sold it) but haven't found much info on this specific model.

pics just because....

03-04 models are great for track racing imo, the stock slipper clutch is nice when down shifting also

surprised your going from a gixer 750 to a 6rr though.

Think you might the 6 a bit tame engine wise if it is a stock motor. The chassis however will be sharper.

I'm keeping the 750 for the occasional trackday but it's my weekend canyon carving toy. I'm planning on racing the 6rr in AFM Clubman. I'm just curious if the 6rr's have any inherent problems with the tranny or motor before I make the trade.

I have an 03 zx6rr with a dozen or so track days on it and just change the oil and routine maintenance. Took out a pressure spring in the slipper to make it smoother. The tranny was wore out when I bought it, but it has been a track bike for about 5000 miles, on the track only! I love it!

Probly wouldnt be a bad idea to lookin to a APE Manual Cam Chain Tensioner. Cuz the ones stock kawis have are garbage n make a tickin noise. Ive also heard that 2nd gear tends to go i beat on extremely hard. N the kleen air mod will give you a lil more low end pull.

no known problems with 2nd gear on the 03-04 models but the 05-06 models were notorious for 2nd gear going out

Good stuff. As for the 05-06 2nd gear problems I didn't have any *knocks wood* after 42k hard street & track miles.
